Astros move Humber to bullpen; Keuchel, Bedard return to rotation

Houston Chronicle — The Astros promoted two pitchers Wednesday and moved former Rice standout Philip Humber to the bullpen. Lefthander Dallas Keuchel will start Friday against the Rangers at Minute Maid Park. Veteran lefty Erik Bedard, who was recently moved into long relief, will take the mound Saturday versus the Rangers. Astros mull removing Philip Humber from rotation

CBSSports.com Fantasy — The Astros have discussed removing starter Philip Humber from the rotation, MLB.com reports Monday. General manager Jeff Luhnow said he and manager Bo Porter have talked about that possibility, but nothing is imminent.  "That's really a decision Bo needs to make, and I'm sure he'll make it at the appropriate time," Luhnow said. "We believe Humber is a major league pitcher and can add value to our team. For now, no decision has been made about any different roles on the pitching side at this point." Brayan Pena belts first HR

CBSSports.com Fantasy — Tigers catcher Brayan Pena belted his first home run of the year Sunday against the Astros. Pena, who was made his eighth start behind the plate, belted the two-run shot in the second inning off starter Philip Humber. That would be his only hit in the 9-0 win as he finished 1 for 5 with two RBI and a run scored. Pena is batting .211/.231/.316 with one home run and four RBI over 38 at-bats.

Astros report: Humber gives no reason to keep starting job

Houston ChroniclePhilip Humber’s dream season with the Astros has reached a breaking point. The veteran righthander gave up seven runs in the initial two innings Sunday during a 9-0 blowout loss to Detroit. He exited the game having allowed eight hits and eight runs while walking three in just four innings. Humber’s ERA hit 8.82 and the former Rice standout is 0-7 this season in seven starts. After giving up 35 hits, 27 runs and nine walks in his last 15 innings, Humber acknowledged postgame Sunday his velocity has fallen off. Philip Humber drops record to 0-6

CBSSports.com Fantasy — Astros starter Philip Humber was decent in New York Tuesday. Unfortunately, Hiroki Kuroda didn't give up a run for the Yankees. Humber surrendered four runs on nine hits and two walks over six innings and took the loss to fall to 0-6. Humber struck out two and threw 94 pitches, 64 for strikes. His ERA is 7.58, allowing 19 earned runs over his last 11 innings. Humber is scheduled to start Sunday against Detroit's tough lineup.

Philip Humber to stay in rotation

CBSSports.com Fantasy — Despite allowing 15 earned runs over his last two starts (five innings), Astros manager Bo Porter said he has no plans to take starting pitcher Philip Humber out of the team's starting rotation, the Houston Chronicle reported Friday. Humber became the first pitcher to reach five losses when he allowed seven earned runs on 10 hits over 4 2/3 innings against the Red Sox Thursday. The right-hander, who has gone 0-5 with a 7.99 ERA over his first five starts, is slated to make his next start Tuesday night at Yankee Stadium.
