Despite struggles, Ronald Acuña, Jr. stays in lead off spot for Braves - like he should

Photo by David John Griffin/Icon Sportswire via Matt Joyce and Rafael Ortega will flank the scuffling phenom It’s no secret that Ronald Acuña, Jr. isn’t hitting like Ronald Acuña, Jr. right now, but he will retain his stronghold on the leadoff spot for tonight’s game. As expected, he will be followed by the rest of the Braves’ Big Four. All things considered, the Braves are rolling with what appears to be a pretty standard lineup for this evening’s tilt with the Blue Jays. Matt Joyce will get a chance to continue his solid work at the plate in the absence of Nick Markakis,...

High octane offense gets Braves past White Sox

Adam Hagy-USA TODAY Sports The Braves have won 9 of their last 10 games. Both teams got started early this evening with the offensive production. Chicago was first to scratch after Dallas Keuchel ran into some trouble. Yoan Moncada singled home Leury Garcia for the 1-0 lead. Thankfully the Braves responded in the same inning in a big way. First it was Dansby Swanson who doubled home Ozzie Albies to tie the game at 1. Then, Tyler Flowers and Rafael Ortega hit back-to-back RBI singles that brought the score to 3-1. Finally, Atlanta capped off their big first inning with an RBI double...

Francisco Cervelli leaves game with apparent leg injury

Photo by Rich Schultz/ The injury bug has bitten the Atlanta Braves once more. Catcher Francisco Cervelli exited Wednesday’s game in Toronto in the second inning after suffering what appeared to be a quad injury. Cervelli walked and then advanced to third on a double by Rafael Ortega. He appeared to pull up lame as he was rounding second. Brian Snitker and the Braves’ training staff came out to check on Cervelli and decided that it was best that he leave the game. The severity of the injury is unknown at this juncture although he did leave the field under his own power. Atlanta has...

Ortega’s slam earns him another start; Acuña, Jr. back at leadoff for first game of Braves-Marlins

Photo by Logan Riely/ Rafael Ortega’s heroics against the Dodgers did not go unnoticed After Alex Anthopoulos’ recent statement about “going with the hot hand” and using the best 25 players on the roster, it looks like Brian Snitker is following suit. After Rafael Ortega’s surprising grand slam on Sunday which put the game - and series - against the Dodgers out of reach, he has been upgraded to “hot hand” status and finds himself planted into the Braves’ lineup again. He will bat eighth and man left field. The off day is over. Let's get back to #Braves baseball!#ChopOn...
