Rapid reaction: Dempster delivers

Boston Red Sox Blog | ESPN Boston — BOSTON -- It took him five tries, but Ryan Dempster finally earned his first victory as a member of the Red Sox. The veteran right-hander, who signed a two-year free-agent deal with Boston worth $26.5 million in the offseason, took advantage of the strikeout-prone Astros in claiming a 7-3 victory over Houston on Friday night at Fenway Park. Dempster was amply backed by the Sox offense. Catcher David Ross led the way with a pair of solo homers and two singles in Boston’s season-high 17-hit attack.

Morning baseball, beer and dogs

Boston Red Sox Blog | ESPN Boston — BOSTON -- Good morning from the Fens, where it never gets old on Patriots Day, seeing a couple sharing a breakfast of beer, hotdogs and onion rings before Mike and Mike have signed off on ESPN. Ryan Dempster, the former Cub, has had a lot of practice at day ball, but this will be his first experience with an 11:05 wakeup call. Ryan Dempster takes hit

Boston Herald — NEW YORK — When the Red Sox signed Ryan Dempster in December, they got a durable 15-year veteran with a wicked sense of humor and a winning personality. But they also got a punching bag for their archrival. In five career starts against Yankees lineups far more loaded than this early-season incarnation, Dempster was 0-4 with a 7.52 ERA. So, it was less than ideal that the right-hander made his Red Sox debut last night in the finale of a three-game series against a Yankees team desperate to avoid a season-opening sweep.

Dempster works through rough inning

Red Sox Blog | Providence Journal — By Tim BrittonFORT MYERS, Fla. -- A Red Sox starter finally experienced some adversity on Tuesday. Ryan Dempster was knocked around a little in Tuesday's third inning, allowing three runs on four consecutive hits in Boston's 8-7 loss to the Orioles. A Trayvon Robinson solo homer and Taylor Teagarden double were part of the Baltimore rally. It was the second time this spring Dempster surrendered four straight hits in a game's third inning. Dempster focused on the bright side of the inning. "It's always good for your body and your arm to get some extension, to get some pitches logged in a...

Ryan Dempster, Allen Webster on the trade that wasn’t

Full Count | WEEI — FORT MYERS, Fla. — The proximity is fascinating. On one end of the row of pitchers in the Red Sox clubhouse in Fort Myers sits Allen Webster, the quiet, rocket-armed prospect who has been opening eyes in the early stages of spring. Near the other end of that same row is Ryan Dempster, the veteran [...]

Dempster has high expectations for Sox

Red Sox Blog | Providence Journal — By Tim BrittonFORT MYERS, Fla. -- Ryan Dempster doesn't care what happened last year. The 36-year-old free-agent acquisition doesn't care that the Red Sox won only 69 games last season, and he doesn't care too much about his own success in 2012. "Anything that happened last year, no matter what team you're on, that kind of goes out the door," he said. "You look at a team like we have, we finished in last place last year, but things can turn around in a heartbeat. We have a lot of really qualified players, guys who have had success, been on winning teams, and we know what to do." Dempster at...
