Pebble Report: Ryan Vilade shines, Ryan Castellani stumbles

Rockies minor league news and stats for the week of June 10-16 It was a pretty different week for a couple of Ryans this past week. Number 9 PuRP Ryan Vilade had 10 hits in 22 at bats for the Lancaster JetHawks, and he added a couple of walks to his ledger as well. The 2017 second round draft pick is now hitting .272/.377/.390 with two home runs. Vilade is a part of the Rockies pretty deep reserve of prospects in the infield, and he looks like he’ll be making the level-by-level trek through the minors. Right now though, he looks more like a Garrett Hampson than a Ryan McMahon. PuRP...

Rockies erase four-run deficit to beat Cubs, with Ryan McMahon’s RBI single the difference

On a night where the home run ruled, it was a bit of luck, hustle and a single that got the job done for the Rockies in a 6-5 comeback victory over the Cubs at Coors Field.

Rockies 6, Cubs 5: RyMac drives in the winning run in CarGo’s return to Denver

Rockies 6, Cubs 5: RyMac drives in the winning run in CarGo’s return to Denver

The Rockies have now won nine home games in a row Ryan McMahon hit a clutch two-out single in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Rockies a 5-4 victory over the visiting Cubs. The win extends the team’s home winning streak to nine and adds another note in the symphony that is the Never Quit 2019 Rockies. Coors giveth, Coors taketh away I’ll bet Cubs fans were feeling pretty good about Coors Field in the top of the fourth inning after three home runs game them a 4-0 lead. But then the bottom half of the inning came. Charlie Blackmon homered in his first game at Coors Field since...

Saturday Rockpile: Talent Show

Rockies news and links for June 1, 2019 The Colorado Rockies are winning because of young talent | Rox PileIt appears the future may be now for the Colorado Rockies. It’s been a tough start to the careers of David Dahl, Ryan McMahon and Raimel Tapia, who had been treated as either bench bats or deemed not ready for MLB action despite struggling veterans playing above them over the past few years. Along with Brendan Rodgers, all young talents appear to have been thrust into at least semi-regular playing time. It should be noted that one of McMahon and Rodgers typically end up taking a...

Colorado Rockies game no. 54 thread: Robbie Ray vs. Jeff Hoffman

Can the Rockies win the series? After being deadlocked at two apiece in the seventh inning, the Rockies rallied behind Chris Iannetta and Ryan McMahon to hand the Diamondbacks their seventh loss in their last ten games. Now, the Rockies will look to win the four game series against the Snakes with one game left tomorrow. Jeff Hoffman will take the mound against southpaw Robbie Ray. Hoffman will be making his third appearance for the Rockies, and hasn’t been overly sharp in his last two outings. He’s lasted only five innings both times, and last time against the Orioles he gave up five...

Phillies 7, Rockies 5: Rockies out-homered in loss

The Rockies were unable to avoid the sweep In a back-and-forth affair at Citizens Bank Park, the Rockies ultimately were not victorious. The game included six home runs: Charlie Blackmon’s 33rd leadoff home run (third of the season), two by Ryan McMahon, and one by Trevor Story (as well as two-run shots by Bryce Harper and JT Realmuto for the Phillies). What’s bugging Kyle Freeland? Kyle Freeland only lasted 1 2⁄3 innings today — his shortest non-injury start of his career. Over the course of those 1 2⁄3 innings, he allowed three runs on four hits with three walks and two...

Sunday Rockpile: Ryan McMahon, Brendan Rodgers, and the battle for second base supremacy

Rockies news and links for Sunday, May 19, 2019 Rodgers’ arrival means a crunch for McMahon | MLB.com There has been plenty of justifiable excitement over the recent promotion of Brendan Rodgers (the team’s number one prospect) to the major league club, but one former prospect turned big league intrigue is now on the outside looking in. Thomas Harding caught up with Ryan McMahon, the corner infielder turned second baseman, about Rodgers joining the team and how it has affected his playing time and mental approach. In the two games Rodgers has been with the Rockies, he has started both...
