Boston Herald — FORT MYERS — Rod Carew was here for the past few weeks, fulfilling his duties as a special assistant for the Minnesota Twins.But the Hall of Famer kept a close eye on the Red Sox’ side of town.Carew has taken a keen interest in outfielder Ryan Sweeney, a non-roster invitee to Red Sox camp following a disappointing, to say nothing of injury-marred, first season with the team. He even worked privately with Sweeney in January, changing both the left-handed swing and the mindset of the 28-year-old with the body of a slugger and the power of a popgun.
