Nationals-Giants discussion thread: NLDS Game 4

The Nationals lived to play another day after beating the Giants. 4-1, in a must-win Game 3 on Monday. Now Gio Gonzalez gets his first start of these playoffs.  In his final seven starts of the season, Gonzalez punched up a 2.36 ERA and held batters to a .191 average. Ryan Vogelsong, who will start for […]

Giants’ Ryan Vogelsong hopes to overcome recent struggles

Ryan Vogelsong started the month of August with a two-hit, one-run complete game at the New York Mets. He then turned in a string of strong outings, posting a 3-1 record on the month with a 2.58 ERA and 0.89 WHIP. There’s a decent chance the Nationals are not facing that pitcher in Tuesday’s Game […]

Giants counting on Vogelsong in Game 4 against Nationals

SAN FRANCISCO - Technically, the Nationals remain the ones with their backs against the wall heading into Game 4 on Tuesday night at AT&T Park. But don't tell that to Ryan Vogelsong.

Nats Journal: Nationals-Giants discussion thread: NLDS Game 3

The Nationals’ season has come to this: NLDS Game 3 in San Francisco with Doug Fister facing Madison Bumgarner. One of the best left-handers in all of baseball, Bumgarner pitched the Giants into the NLDS with a complete-game shutout of the Pirates. Fister has the most postseason experience of any Nationals pitcher and has a 2.98 career playoff ERA. If the Nationals win Monday, Game 4 will be here in San Francisco on Wednesday night, with Gio Gonzalez starting for the Nationals and Ryan Vogelsong perhaps going for the Giants. The lineups are here. As always, talk about the game below. Read...

Nats Journal: Rested Giants would turn to Ryan Vogelsong in Game 4

Giants Manager Bruce Bochy said that if there’s a Game 4 at AT&T Park on Tuesday, he’d likely stick with his rotation and give Ryan Vogelsong the start. Of course, the veteran manager would prefer his team finish off the Nats this afternoon and not have to worry about Games 4 and 5 of the National League Division Series. Read full article >>

POSTGAME NOTES: After rough month, Hudson finds his form; Belt’s bat drop; Was Bum going to hit?

Nobody does reclamation projects quite like Bruce Bochy, Dave Righetti and Mark Gardner. Ryan Vogelsong had a 10.31 ERA during a seven-start stretch in late 2012 before finding a groove and giving up three total runs in four October starts.… Continue Reading →

NLDS Game 2 Preview: Finally healthy, Tim Hudson gets the nod over Vogelsong, Petit

There were three different ways Giants manager Bruce Bochy could have gone for Game 2 of the National League Division Series, and all had their merits. Ryan Vogelsong was consistent throughout the regular season and carries memories of a 1.09… Continue Reading →

Padres top Giants, 4-1

SAN FRANCISCO-Ryan Vogelsong was one of four active Willie Mac Award winners on the field when Madison Bumgarner accepted the 2014 plaque before Friday's game, but he didn't pay much attention. Vogelsong, intensity already shooting out of his eyes, nodded briefly from the bullpen mound and then got back to the work of preparing for a start that could have bolstered his case as the Giants start kicking around postseason rotation options.
POSTGAME NOTES: Ryan Vogelsong is pleased with his recovery, but will he get another start?

POSTGAME NOTES: Ryan Vogelsong is pleased with his recovery, but will he get another start?

“I just blew it,” Ryan Vogelsong said. He wasn’t talking about the Giants losing their very slim shot at hosting the Wild Card Game. He was talking about his own night. “That’s what makes tonight even tougher to take,” he… Continue Reading →

Giants continue floating towards season's finish line like a bloated corpse, lose to Padres.

Giants continue floating towards season's finish line like a bloated corpse, lose to Padres.

The Giants celebrated the clinching of their "NL West Division Postseason" title too much last night and it showed tonight. Also, Madison Bumgarner gave a speech before the game. The speech was 66 words and was way better than the game. If that was Ryan Vogelsong's last start in a Giants uniform then it was a not terrible way to go out. It wasn't great, but then again, how often is "the last time" ever really great? We can't all Jeter-off into that good night. Besides, Ryan Vogelsong and all of us should be happy with and even proud of what he's accomplished this season. For one thing, he...
