Game Thread 6/18: Phillies at Nationals

It’s time for game two of four, and people couldn’t be more wet and angry. Zach Eflin and his 2.81 ERA are the closest thing the Phillies have to a stopper at this point, so putting him up against Erick Fedde is probably also the closest thing the Phillies have to a projected win in this series. Fedde hasn’t had a lot of luck as a starter this year, making five starts and giving up 11 ER, 10 BB, and 25 H in 26 IP. Get ‘im, Scott Kingery!

The Good Phil of the Week 6/10-6/16

The Good Phil of the Week 6/10-6/16

Could the Phillies have two NL Players of the week in a row? It’s possible. In one of our biggest celebrations of the Philadelphia Phillies, every week the members of The Good Phight will be issuing one of baseball’s greatest achievements to date: The Good Phil of the Week Award. One MLB player and one MiLB player will receive the award each week and will be able to boast to their teammates that they are, in fact, a Good Phil. Major League Good Phil of the Week: Scott Kingery This one is as easy as hitting a home run off Phillies pitching. The Scott Kingery breakout week (and season)...

Hernandez two-run single in ninth lifts Phillies past Braves

Cesar Hernandez played the hero role on Saturday night, lofting a single into left field in the ninth inning to drive in a pair of runs to lift the Phillies past the Braves, 6-5, at SunTrust Park. Scott Kingery reached via a single in the ninth and Sean Rodriguez reached base following an errant throw by Luke Jackson on a sacrifice-bunt attempt. The pair went on to score arguably the two most significant runs this season for the Phils.Hernandez finished the evening 2-for-4 with three RBIs while Kingery finished 3-for-3 on the night to raise his batting average on the year to .347.Hector...

Gabe Kapler won't call Hector Neris a closer, but he wants to call him an All-Star

A year ago this month, Jay Bruce was playing for a fourth-place team, Hector Neris was nearing a demotion to triple-A Lehigh Valley, and Scott Kingery was struggling mightily with his first taste of the major leagues.

Arrieta and Kingery star as Phillies take down D-backs

The Phillies needed a solid outing from Jake Arrieta on Tuesday night and that's exactly what he provided, leading the Phils to a 7-4 victory over the Diamondbacks at Citizens Bank Park. The veteran tossed six innings, allowing three runs on six hits. It wasn't anything spectacular, but his performance saved the bullpen from being taxed again following Monday's debacle. Hector Neris tossed a perfect ninth to secure his 14th save. Offensively, Scott Kingery remained hot and launched a three-run shot in the third inning for his third home run over the span of two days. He's now hitting .324 on...

Snake Bytes, 6/12: Not as Much Fun

Philadelphia’s bats showed up early in game two of the series and Arizona’s bullpen was unable to entirely stop the bleeding. Diamondbacks News Arizona 4, Philadelphia 7 Arun-scoring double by Bryce Harper, followed by a three-run home run from Scott Kingery put the Phillies on top in the fourth inning and contributed to Jon Duplantier exiting after only three innings of work. A great defensive play by Jay Bruce in left prevented the Diamondbacks from at least cutting that lead in half before Duplantier left the game. Then, subsequent attempts to claw back into the game were thwarted...

Great Scott: Phillies 7, Diamondbacks 4

Scott Kingery showed the kind of output that makes you think we’re back in the future. Last year, Scott Kingery signed a deal with the Phillies that made it seem like they knew something we didn’t. After a strong spring, the team locked him up, and for most of the 2018 season, it was clear that whatever they’d seen just wasn’t there anymore. We were left to wonder, then, who Kingery was going to be when he showed up this year among the Phillies’ new, more talented roster. If last night was any indiction, the future the Phillies saw for Kingery may be back. In the last two weeks,...

Phillies: What is Scott Kingery doing differently this year?

After an abysmal rookie season for the Phillies, Scott Kingery is performing much better this year at the plate. What, if anything, has changed? We all know the story of Scott Kingery‘s rookie season by now. The Phillies gave him the second contract in MLB history to a player yet to make his major-league debut. Bruce Almighty: Phillies 9, Padres 6

Jay Bruce’s two home runs help snap the Phillies’ losing streak Jay Bruce and the Phillies have a lot of history together, and most of it has been unpleasant for the Phillies. Tuesday night served as a bit of an apology for all the torment he’s put Phillies fans through over the years. His two home runs led the team to a losing-streak snapping 9-6 win over the Padres. With Andrew McCutchen sidelined for the season, Bruce and Scott Kingery will likely be the recipients of more playing time. So its a good sign that both men had big nights on Tuesday. Kingery drove in the Phillies’...

The Phillies visit the NL’s best team Jake Arrieta faces off against Kenta Maeda tonight as the Phillies start a tough series at Chavez Ravine. Lineups Andrew McCutchen is in Center for the Phils tonight, with Nick Williams in Left, while Scott Kingery starts at third base. For LA, the Fresh Prince of Bel Air is catching, and may well be a breath of fresh air for Arrieta in an otherwise lefty-heavy lineup that is one of the best in MLB. (source: Rotowire)
