POSTGAME NOTES: Braves turn the tables on Romo, Giants

Giants Extra | San Jose Mercury NewsSergio Romo had faced 98 batters coming into Saturday’s game and walked just three of them. Three. That’s not abnormal for him, either. Romo walked just 10 guys a year ago and five through all of 2011. He relies on sliders that go pretty much exactly where he wants them to go and have led [...]

Beerleaguer — The Phillies rallied in the ninth against Sergio Romo, scoring two runs and tying the Giants, 3-3. But an Andres Torres walk-off single in the 10th prevented the Phillies' first sweep in San Francisco since 1984. Seeing the Phils hit Romo was a great sign. One thing they've really struggled to do the last two seasons is make up multi-run deficits, and they did exactly that against one of the game's best closers. It was only the fourth time in...

Giants storm out of dugout, punch each other mirthfully (again)

McCovey Chronicles — Theory: It is absolutely worth it for a closer to blow a lead in the ninth if it leads to a walk-off win in the tenth. What was previously a very nice, solid win in regulation became a game that made you shout profanities at your TV. Profanity-yelling wins are the best wins. Sergio Romo is just looking out for you, you know. If you believe in karma or a just universe, you probably turned your TV off when the Phillies tied the game. Because if the Giants have consistently broken hearts with late-inning comebacks off normally solid relievers, that means they're karmically due to pay that...
