Giants notes: Sergio Romo relieved to "take the weeks instead of a year"

LOS ANGELES – Sergio Romo’s right elbow didn’t lock up or get hot. “It just didn’t feel right,” Romo said. “It’s hard to explain.” An MRI exam helped to explain exactly what was going on in Romo’s elbow, and the… Continue Reading → The post Giants notes: Sergio Romo relieved to "take the weeks instead of a year" appeared first on Giants Extra.

Giants infielder Adrianza joins Romo on disabled list

Giants infielder Adrianza joins Romo on disabled list LOS ANGELES — The good-health story for the Giants lasted 10 games. Reliever Sergio Romo was expected to go on the DL after an examination Thursday showed a strained flexor tendon in his pitching elbow. Ehire Adrianza’s trip to the DL was a surprise. A second batch of diagnostic tests revealed a fracture in his left foot, which he slammed with a foul ball in in the eighth inning of Thursday’s loss in Denver. The Giants recalled reliever Derek Law from Triple-A Sacramento to make his major-league debut. The Giants had no other...

Giants notes: Joe Law on his son, Derek: “I’d rather he be able to be there than me”

LOS ANGELES – It’s a special day for Derek Law and his family, after the Giants promoted the right-hander to replace Sergio Romo on the roster. Life Without Sergio Romo

Remember that fun number about the Giants Peter Gammons loved to trot out? As a sign of their success and consistency, he used to note how few meaningless games the Giants had played in the Brian Sabean era, the drips...

Sergio Romo heads to DL; Derek Law called up

Despite Brandon Crawford and Ehire Adrianza being dinged up, the state of the Giants pitching is such that they didn't want to chance having fewer than 13 pitchers. Following yesterday's move that placed Sergio Romo on the 15-day disabled list, the Giants announced late last night that it would be Derek Law who'd be getting the call-up to the fill the roster spot. If my calculations are correct, he'll be the 7th Giant on the active roster to have been born in the 90s. Derek Law has, of course, been one of the Giants more intriguing pitching prospects of this decade. In 2013 at San Jose...

Giants to place Sergio Romo on disabled list with flexor strain

DENVER – Sergio Romo won’t throw another pitch in April, and perhaps quite a bit longer. But the Giants avoided the worst-case scenario when doctors reviewed tests on the right-hander’s aching elbow on Thursday. Romo was diagnosed with a strained… Continue Reading → The post Giants to place Sergio Romo on disabled list with flexor strain appeared first on Giants Extra.

Giants right-hander Sergio Romo to undergo tests on ailing elbow

DENVER – Sergio Romo, a core member of three World Series champion bullpens and a significant late-inning presence, is going back to San Francisco for tests on an aching right elbow. Giants manager Bruce Bochy said that Romo wasn’t available… Continue Reading → The post Giants right-hander Sergio Romo to undergo tests on ailing elbow appeared first on Giants Extra.

Peavy, Giants rocked by Arenado as Colorado sets extra-base hits record

DENVER – There was reason to be concerned about Jake Peavy’s stuff after a tepid season debut against the Dodgers in which he generated just three clean swinging strikes. Peavy didn’t lack for whiffs in his four innings Wednesday night… Continue Reading → The post Peavy, Giants rocked by Arenado as Colorado sets extra-base hits record appeared first on Giants Extra.
