Shaun Marcum was promoted by the Indians Wednesday and turned in a quality outing in a 4-3 win against the Chicago White Sox on the road that included a bases-loaded situation in the bottom of the ninth. Marcum (1-0) threw 6 2/3 innings, allowed two runs on four hits and struck out six. The White Sox (18-19) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third on Adam Eaton’s solo home run. The Indians (16-23) then scored for unanswered runs. Mike Aviles drove in Jose Ramirez with a sacrifice fly in the sixth to make it 1-1. Indians call up SP Shaun Marcum, send down INF Zach Walters

The Indians on Wednesday promoted pitcher Shaun Marcum and optioned down infielder Zach Walters to Triple-A Columbus. Marcum, 33, is slated to pitch Wednesday night against the Chicago White Sox. In Triple-A this season, he has a 4-0 record and 1.36 ERA in five starts. Wednesday night will mark his first major-league start since July 6, 2013 with the New York Mets. Walters was expendable once Mike Aviles returned to the team. He went 1-for-17 with eight strikeouts in seven games for the Indians.

Shaun Marcum (3-0) went six innings, scattering six hits and yielding two runs, striking out three.
