New York Yankees vs. Baltimore Orioles: Lance Lynn vs. David Hess

New York Yankees vs. Baltimore Orioles: Lance Lynn vs. David Hess

Go Yankees go The Yankees opened up the last homestand of the regular season with a win over the Orioles last night. They’ll try to earn the series win this afternoon with Lance Lynn set to square off against David Hess. Lynn actually made his Yankees debut against Baltimore at the beginning of August. If you remember, it was the game that bounced Sonny Gray out of the rotation. The new Yankee was called upon for a lengthy relief outing and ended up tossing 4.1 scoreless innings. He has been up and down since then, but limited the Blue Jays to just one run through five innings earlier in...

New York Yankees vs. Minnesota Twins: Luis Severino vs. Jake Odorizzi

New York Yankees vs. Minnesota Twins: Luis Severino vs. Jake Odorizzi

Maybe Good Sevy will show up in Minnesota. Last night’s game was...something. If nothing else, it reminded us all why Sonny Gray and Jonny Loaisiga are not in the Yankees rotation. Sadly, with Luis Severino pitching the way that he has been for the last two plus months, today’s game could end up looking a lot like yesterday’s. Sevy seemed to take a few steps forward recently, but was hit hard by the Athletics in Oakland during his last outing. He gave up five earned runs and was pulled from the game before making it through three innings. Hopefully the extra day off did him some...

Sonny Gray and the rest of the Yankees’ pitching struggles in loss to Twins

Sonny Gray and the rest of the Yankees’ pitching struggles in loss to Twins

No corner has been turned by Sonny. Despite the amount of time it took to take the lead, Monday’s game could not have gone much better than it did. The offense looked good, and the Yankees got a strong outing from J.A Happ, who’s been their best pitcher since acquiring him. Then there was Tuesday. After being pretty decent in his last couple outings, Sonny Gray again showed that no corner had been turned. Also, the offense threw in one of their patented bases loaded RISP fails. While Monday showed what can happen when the team plays well, Tuesday's 10-5 loss to the Twins shows what can...

New York Yankees vs. Minnesota Twins: Sonny Gray vs. Tyler Duffey

New York Yankees vs. Minnesota Twins: Sonny Gray vs. Tyler Duffey

Can the Yankees pick up where they left off last night? It took a while, but the Yankees’ offense went off last night in a 7-2 win over the Twins. Tonight, they look to follow that up in game two in Minnesota. Sonny Gray has been moved back into the rotation for tonight’s game. He has now allowed just two runs in his last 15.2 innings, most recently allowing one in four innings against the Tigers. His last start was also good, throwing 6.1 shutout innings against the Orioles on August 25th. If we’ve learned anything this season, it’s not to trust that Gray has turned things around....

J.A. Happ has given the Yankees exactly what they’ve needed since the trade deadline

Coming into the season, the question was not “will the Yankees get a starter at the deadline?” The question was “which starter will they get?” It was a damn near certainly the Yankees would get another starting pitcher, especially after Jordan Montgomery went down with Tommy John surgery and Sonny Gray stayed healthy but went […] The post J.A. Happ has given the Yankees exactly what they’ve needed since the trade deadline appeared first on River Avenue Blues.

New-look mechanics for Sonny Gray could revive his Yankees career

Varying his time to the plate certainly helped the beleaguered righty in Baltimore Dear reader, I regret to inform you I may not have been entirely truthful with you. After Sonny Gray’s exemplary start Saturday night against the Baltimore Orioles, tossing 6.1 innings of shutout ball with seven strikeouts and 11 groundouts, I posted the following comment: My deep love for Vlad Guerrero Jr. aside, I sat down to rewatch Gray’s start, since I was only able to follow along on At-Bat while at Coca-Cola Field in Buffalo. I’m not falling for Good Sonny again, I’ve been hurt...
