Mets Morning News for May 25, 2019

Your Saturday morning dose of New York Mets and MLB news, notes, and links. Meet the Mets Noah Syndergaard struggled mightily on Friday, giving up 6 runs in just a little over five innings of work. It’s the seventh time this season Syndergaard has given up four or more runs in a start, something he did only five times all of last season. Drew Gagnon gave up three more, and so the Mets were sunk, despite scoring eight runs of their own. They went down swinging 9-8 against a bad Tigers squad. Mets Morning News for May 24, 2019

Your Friday morning dose of New York Mets and MLB news, notes, and links. Meet the Mets It was a strange game on both sides but a mighty blow by Carlos Gomez helped the Mets take care of business and sweep the Nationals. Steven Matz limited the damage against him and was in a position to win the game until Robert Gsellman handed the lead to Washington late. That just set the stage for Gomez who hit a three-run home run with two outs to dramatically retake the lead. Edwin Diaz handled the rest and the Mets walked away with the four-game sweep. Mets’ Steven Matz able to navigate through traffic

The traffic kept mounting and Steven Matz kept swerving through it without so much as a scratch. The Mets lefty put 12 runners on base — 10 hits and two walks — in six innings Thursday and lived to tell about it. Nine Nationals reached scoring position against him, but only one scored. Matz stranded...

Final Score: Mets 6, Nationals 4 — Shoe-in

The Mets swept their once-mighty division rivals. The Mets B-Squad took an up and down match-up with the Nationals, defeating them 6-4 in dramatic fashion. Even with a lineup full of part time role players, the Mets were able to defeat Stephen Strasburg and the beleaguered Nats’ bullpen. Steven Matz started for the Mets, and while he gave up a lot of hard contact, limited the Nationals to just one run; a run scored in spectacularly stupid fashion, to boot. Matz went six innings, giving up one run, ten hits, and two walks, while striking out seven. The Mets’ offense all came in the...

Pablo López dominant in shutout victory over the Mets

The Mets were limited to one hit this afternoon. The Marlins won their second game in a row today. They one hit the Mets on a beautiful afternoon. Pablo López cruised through most of the game. The offense delivered just enough run support. Pablo López: 7 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 7 K, 0 HR Steven Matz: 3.2 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 6 K, 1 HR The first inning has been a hard one for the Marlins rotation this season. Things did not start off ideally today for López, as he gave up a lead off double to Jeff McNeil. With a man in scoring position it looked like the Mets were primed to score first...

Final Score: Marlins 2, Mets 0—Dead in the Water

The Mets recorded just one hit and were shut out by the team with the worst record in baseball. The Mets were held to just one hit by Pablo Lopez, a pitcher who they tattooed for ten runs the last time they faced him, and lost to worst team in baseball for the second straight day. That one hit came on the very first batter of the game, when Jeff McNeil doubled to start things off. But the Mets failed to drive him in and the bats went silent after that. Lopez struck out seven and walked two over seven innings of work. For his part, Steven Matz wasn’t perfect, but took a step in the right...

Mets activate Steven Matz from injured list, option Paul Sewald

Matz is on a pitch count in his start today. Steven Matz has been activated from his injured list stint for today’s start. He had been placed on the IL with nerve soreness in his pitching elbow. After throwing a bullpen session on Tuesday, Matz said he was “really happy” after throwing 45 pitches. The nerve soreness has played a large part in Matz’s ability to throw his curveball per Tim Healy. Matz has pitched well in almost every start and has a 3.86 ERA despite not recording an out in one of his starts. The Mets intend on keeping his pitch count to 75-80 pitches this afternoon...
