How Tanner Houck Feels About Roberto Clemente Award Nomination

Red Sox pitcher Tanner Houck is thrilled to be Boston’s nominee for the 2023 Roberto Clemente Award. During the right-hander’s first full season in the Red Sox organization, he launched his Pitch for Adoption foundation. Since then, Houck has continued to stick by those charitable efforts, leading to a nomination of an ultimate honor as […]

Tanner Houck Had ‘Fun’ Facing Ex-Red Sox Teammate Nathan Eovaldi

For the final time this season, the Boston Red Sox caught up and faced old friend Nathan Eovaldi. Taking the mound opposite of Eovaldi was Boston’s Tanner Houck, who tossed four innings (allowing two runs) to Eovaldi’s five (allowing three runs). It was the first time the former Red Sox teammates went head-to-head and just […]

Red Sox Notes: How Alex Cora Assesses Tanner Houck’s Topsy-Turvy Season

Tanner Houck has experienced a little bit of everything in his first season as a full-time starting pitcher for the Boston Red Sox. There’s been good starts, bad starts and two months off after suffering a scary injury in which Houck took a liner off the face. It’s hard to assess Houck’s season given the […]

Alex Cora Provides Health Update On Trio Of Red Sox Pitchers

The Boston Red Sox are reaching the end of their 2023 season, but that doesn’t mean there still isn’t work to be done until Game 162. With just 15 games left to play, the Red Sox still have various names on the injured list — mostly pitchers — and they still going through the rehab […]

How Tanner Houck Convinced Alex Cora To Keep Pitching Vs. Yankees

NYY @ BOS: Michael King vs. Tanner Houck

Photo by New York Yankees/ It’s throwback baseball in Boston as the Yankees and Red Sox contest the four-game series over a pair of doubleheaders. The weather gods in Boston appear to be in a particularly uncooperative mood, with the first and third of this four-game series getting rained out and rescheduled as twin bills the following days. The Yankees picked up their first doubleheader sweep at Fenway since 2006 and will look to match that today — on the same day that the Red Sox canned chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom. The end-of-year experiment to stretch...

Red Sox Vs. Yankees Lineups: Ceddanne Rafaela Leads Off In Game 1

The Red Sox and Yankees are back in doubleheader action at Fenway Park. Wednesday’s Boston-New York matchup was postponed due to weather, so the sides will conclude the four-game series Thursday. NYY @ BOS: Clarke Schmidt vs. Tanner Houck

Clarke Schmidt in his last outing against the Tigers. | Wendell Cruz-USA TODAY Sports Schmidt takes the hill with extra rest in tow as the Yankees look to take their first series against the Sox this season. After yesterday’s low-scoring doubleheader sweep, the Yankees are poised to at least draw even in a series with the Red Sox for the first time this season. Better yet, with a win today, they could even clinch a series win against their longtime rivals. The Yankees trounced Boston 13-6 in their season series last year, so their improvement after yesterday to just...

Red Sox Notes: Tanner Houck Looks To Curb Third-Time Struggles

Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Tanner Houck really only made one mistake through the first five innings Friday night against the Baltimore Orioles. It looked like it was going to be a promising outing from Houck, but his troubles going through a lineup a third time continue to be a thorn that won’t come out […]

Red Sox 11, Orioles 2: Monkey’s Paw

Photo by Maddie Meyer/ W.W. Jacobs short story, but scarier Tanner Houck is so talented until he isn’t. He seems to cruise through three innings every outing before running head-first into an invisible, impenetrable wall. Tonight, his decline wasn’t drastic, surrendering a solo home run in the fourth, and a base hit in the fifth. Then, in the sixth inning, the baseball gods decided to hurl feces at the fan. It’s as if in his Little League days, Houck found a monkey’s paw and wished to throw 60 great pitches in every outing. Fast forward 15 years, when baseball...

Game 141: Orioles at Red Sox

Photo by Billie Weiss/Boston Red Sox/ Wild Card charge? The Red Sox have another rough assignment: the first place Baltimore Orioles! Is Tanner Houck up for the challenge? They probably need to do better than 1-2 this time. Although could they have won another game or even two against the Rays? Sure. And the Orioles aren’t really that different. First pitch is at 7:10 PM ET on WEEI and NESN.

OTM Open Thread 9/8-9/10: It is Friday, Saturday, and Sunday

Sweep Baltimore! O’s, O’s, O’s! Happy Weekend everyone! The Yankees lost last night, putting the Red Sox up by 2 games over the last place team in New York. They remain 5.0 games back in the Wild Card. This weekend the Sox are in Baltimore to play the Orioles who are somehow a first place team. Amazingly the two teams haven’t faced off since April. And they’re 3-3 this year. Boston will send Tanner Houck, Chris Sale, and Brayan Bello against the Birds this weekend before the critical (to not finish in last) series with the Yankees next week. Talk about what you want...
