White Sox 6, Indians 2: Offense awakens immediately

White Sox 6, Indians 2: Offense awakens immediately

Cleveland defense collapses to erase hopes of sweep After suffering three-hitters in the first two games of the series, the White Sox exceeded their offensive output in the first inning alone. They greeted Danny Salazar with four hits that led to three runs, and that was all a pitching staff headed by Derek Holland needed to stave off a sweep. The White Sox did their heavy lifting early, although with an assist from the Cleveland defense that foreshadowed later problems on the Tribe’s side. Tim Anderson started the attack by roping an 0-2 changeup for a double, moved to third on Tyler...

White Sox 10, Indians 4: Early Knockout Win

White Sox 10, Indians 4: Early Knockout Win

In their previous three games, the Chicago White Sox offense was punchless only scoring four runs total. With the pitching staff leading the American League in ERA, it's the hitting that has held back the Sox early in 2017. All it took was one pitch to set the tone against Indians starter, Josh Tomlin. Tim Anderson's leadoff home run sparked a five-run first inning and the Sox never looked back in their 10-4 victory. In that first frame, four of those runs were with two outs. Avisail Garcia extended his hitting streak to eight games with a single that advanced Cody Asche to second. Matt...

Tim Anderson Homers On First Pitch Of The Game As White Sox Jump All Over Indians

After getting off to a bit of a slow start, Tim Anderson wasted no time in putting the White Sox on top 1-0 smashing the very first pitch he saw off Cleveland’s Josh Tomlin. It wasn’t much later in the 1st that Matt Davidson belted a ball over the right-field wall, plating Cody Asche and Avisail

White Sox lead Indians 7-1 in 2nd

Tim Anderson hit his first homer of the year on the first pitch of Thursday’s game to start the White Sox off right at Progressive Field. Anderson’s shot to left field off Indians right-hander Josh Tomlin was the first of six first-inning Sox hits, and the Sox pulled ahead 7-1 by the second inning....

White Sox 6, Twins 2: Avi bounces back

White Sox 6, Twins 2: Avi bounces back

Yesterday, the White Sox lost because of poor defensive plays such as Avisail Garcia dropped fly ball that tied the game. Today, the White Sox won in large part because of Avisail Garcia's bat. Garcia's three-hit day included a clutch two-run home run in the sixth inning, helping give the Sox a 6-2 victory over the Twins, who suffered their first loss of 2017. The scoring started in the first inning when Tyler Saladino leads off with a double. Tim Anderson and Melky Cabrera hit ground balls to the right side of the infield which helped manufacture their first run. In the second, Todd...

An Opening Day to forget for Jose Quintana, Tim Anderson

An Opening Day to forget for Jose Quintana, Tim Anderson

Both were beaten by better efforts to start the season With one White Sox game finally in the books, it’s too early to look at the data — and I don’t mean because of a lack of sample size. Gameday’s been throwing up on itself early on, Baseball Savant doesn’t have the 2017 data on player pages yet, Brooks Baseball said Jose Quintana threw 30 extra pitches, and with Major League Baseball switching from PITCHf/x to Trackman, velocities might be difficult to establish early in the season, at least relative to a player’s career. That said, the two biggest things that jumped out to...

Tim Anderson on buying his mom a new car: ‘She was dancing and excited’

White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson made a promise he couldn’t wait to keep, and so he enlisted the help of his brothers more than 1,000 miles away to make it happen Wednesday. Anderson, who signed a six-year, $25 million contract last week, was busy wrapping up the final day of Cactus League play...

Let’s Get Extended

Last week the Chicago White Sox gave shortstop Tim Anderson a six-year, $25 million extension, with two club option years that would double that amount. It was the largest amount given to a player with less than a year of service time. On its face this looks like a relatively low-risk, high upside deal for Chicago. Anderson’s been one of their best prospects since being drafted and was ranked 45th on ESPN’s Keith Law’s 2016 top-100 list. If Anderson reaches his ceiling, or comes close, this is a major win for Chicago. If he sucks, well, $25 million over six years ... Read the full post
