Following up: New reporters, no new reports on Jose Quintana

Plus: The timeline of Tim Anderson’s contract extension Jose Quintana has kept a low profile after Colombia broke his heart the way his White Sox teammates routinely do. He’ll emerge from the back fields to pitch against the Cincinnati Reds today, but that will be his first Cactus League action since his no-decision in the World Baseball Classic. It was a record for the most guaranteed money given to a player with less than a year of service time, and when contrasted with the way the Blue Jays treated staff ace Aaron Sanchez last week, seems very generous. But is it? Anderson turns 24 in June, meaning that...

Tim Anderson did what he could with contract extension

Shortstop could actually come out ahead in arbitration years, at a cost of delaying free agency two years It’s been a couple years since we’ve seen the front side of an early extension, and it seems even longer than that. In the two years since Adam Eaton signed his five-year deal with two club options, the White Sox have traded him and another one of their best business decisions (Chris Sale) while dangling the other (Jose Quintana) for months. While the Sox struggled in vain to escape the crushing disappointment, fans and media often sought to project a residual dissatisfaction onto...
