Tony Abreu starts rehab stint

CBSSports.com Fantasy — Giants infielder Tony Abreu, on the 15-day disabled list with a quad injury, began his rehab assignment with Triple-A Fresno Friday night. Abreu went 0 for 2 with a strikeout. Manager Bruce Bochy told MLB.com that there is no timetable for his return. "We want him to continue to get better, with no more setbacks," Bochy said.

Tony Abreu ready for rehab stint

CBSSports.com Fantasy — Giants have placed infielder Tony Abreu on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Fresno Friday night. Abreu, who is on the 15-day disabled list, is working his way back from a quadriceps injury. He was claimed off waivers from the Royals in early February and missed much of spring training due to injuries. He hit .257/.284/.357 with one home run and 15 RBI in 70 at-bats last season with Kansas City.

Abreu returns for Giants

CBSSports.com Fantasy — San Francisco infielder Tony Abreu is finally over his strained quad that has kept him sidelined for much of the spring. Abreu made his Cactus League debut on Monday against the Texas Rangers as he started at third base and hit second. Abreu went 1 for 2 in the game to start off his spring on the right foot. He is hoping to win a backup infield job this spring.

CBSSports.com Fantasy — Giants second baseman Tony Abreu will miss the next couple days of workouts because of a strained quad, the San Jose Mercury News reports. Abreu was claimed off waivers from the Royals earlier this month and is expected to land a spot on the roster as a backup infielder.

Abreu, 28, hit .257 in 22 games with the Kansas City Royals last season while playing three infield positions. He was claimed off waivers earlier this month and is one of the favorites to win the second backup infielder spot, one of the few openings on the roster.
