Mets activate Jeff McNeil from injured list, option Tyler Bashlor to Syracuse

Robinson Cano, on the other hand, will not be activated today. The Mets have activated Jeff McNeil from the 10-day injured list ahead of tonight’s game against the San Francisco Giants. To make room on the 25-man roster for McNeil, Tyler Bashlor has been optioned to Triple-A Syracuse. Bashlor posted a 5.40 ERA and a 6.23 FIP over 11 2⁄3 innings of work out of the bullpen. The Mets had been carrying an extra pitcher and now go back down to seven arms in their bullpen with this roster move. This is a somewhat surprising development, as the Mets did not give the impression that McNeil...

Mets Morning News for June 2, 2019

Your Sunday morning dose of New York Mets and MLB news, notes, and links. Meet the Mets The Mets suffered another heartbreaking late-inning loss at the hands of the bullpen, falling to the Diamondbacks 6-5 in walk-off fashion in the eleventh inning. The Mets staked an early lead and Jacob deGrom retired fifteen Diamondbacks in a row at one point, but Jeurys Familia and Robert Gsellman combined to cough up the lead in the eighth and Tyler Bashlor allowed the winning run in the eleventh. To add injury to insult, deGrom was pulled from the game early with discomfort in his hip. Choose your...

Scooter’s slam makes the difference in L.A.

Scooter’s slam makes the difference in L.A.

Matz was impressive in the 7-3 victory. Coming into Los Angeles, the narrative appeared to be that, yes the Mets had a good week, but the Dodgers were a different class of team. On Monday, the Mets (minus Tyler Bashlor and Daniel Zamora) more or less kept pace with the best of the West, and on Tuesday, they beat said team 7-3. Tuesday’s success started with Steven Matz who, like his last start against the Nationals, allowed a fair amount of baserunners, but really limited the damage. That was due, in large part, to the success of his curveball, which neutralized hitters and kept hard...

Mets Morning News for May 28, 2019

Your Tuesday morning dose of New York Mets and MLB news, notes, and links. Meet the Mets The Mets went into the 6th inning of their Memorial Day matchup with the Dodgers in the driver’s seat, holding a 3-2 lead over the boys in blue, but the lack of Seth Lugo came back to haunt the Mets. Tyler Bashlor and Daniel Zamora combined to give up a six-run-sixth before Wilmer Font mercifully ended the inning. Cody Bellinger plagued the Mets all day with his bat and his throwing arm. The Dodgers and Mets would tack on a couple more in the 8th, but by then it was too late for the Amazins, who lost...

Mets vs. Dodgers recap: Mets no match for Dodgers in series opener

Mets vs. Dodgers recap: Mets no match for Dodgers in series opener

The Dodger offense was relentless against Mets pitching. In a game with two marquee pitchers on the mound, it was the Dodgers’ ace who emerged victorious in the City of Angels. As for the Mets, it was the bullpen who stood out and not for the right reasons. The Mets were winning 3-2 heading into the sixth inning, but the lead evaporated quicker than rain on a hot summer day. Tyler Bashlor got the first out to start the inning and then the slim lead was gone when Chris Taylor hit a solo home run. Bashlor would then depart after not recording another out. Daniel Zamora relieved him and...

Mets’ bullpen, base-running exposed in terrible way

Mets’ bullpen, base-running exposed in terrible way

LOS ANGELES — The underbelly of the Mets bullpen was exposed Monday night, sending tremors through the visitor’s dugout at Dodger Stadium. Tyler Bashlor and Daniel Zamora were battered in a sixth inning that wouldn’t end, only underscoring Jacob deGrom’s mediocre night that concluded early because of pitch-count concerns. By the time the sun set,...
