Orioles ninth inning rally comes short in 7-6 loss to Mariners

Orioles ninth inning rally comes short in 7-6 loss to Mariners

The Orioles dropped the series finale to the Mariners, 7-6. A wild ninth inning rally almost did it, but the early deficit they were handed by Ubaldo Jimenez was just too much. The Orioles annual west coast road trip came to an end in disappointing fashion on Wednesday afternoon. Like many other games this season, the O's generated some scoring chances, got a few runs, and then their disaster of a starting rotation just couldn't do anything at all good or even OK. A wild ninth inning gave them a chance, but the deficit given by the pitching staff was just too much to overcome. With this 7-6...

“O’s Cap” Dooms Birds to 10 Straight Friday Losses

The Orioles looked to be well on their way to notching their second straight win last night to begin their four-game set in Oakland. The win would have also gotten them back to .500 (again), and made them 3-2 through half of this crucial 10-game west coast swing. Ubaldo Jimenez was dominant, striking out 11 over 5.1 innings (and eight in the first three) before being removed from the game thanks to a line drive to the leg. They were up 4-3 headed to the bottom of the eighth, with […] The post “O’s Cap” Dooms Birds to 10 Straight Friday Losses appeared first on Baltimore Orioles News |...

Orioles lose to Athletics, 5-4, despite Jimenez’s 11 strikeouts

Ubaldo Jimenez had his best stuff against the Oakland lineup, but the bullpen couldn’t hold on late against the Athletics. The Orioles looked to be on their way to winning the first two games of the four-game weekend series against the Athletics, but the late innings didn’t turn in the favor of the visitors. Below, the details from a tough loss in Oakland. The recap After a scoreless first inning from both Athletics starter Paul Blackburn and Ubaldo Jimenez, Blackburn kicked off the second inning with a fastball up in the zone that Adam Jones, the night’s cleanup hitter, didn’t...

O's can't hold late lead, fall 5-4 at Oakland - Steve Melewski

OAKLAND, Calif. - Right-hander Ubaldo Jimenez tonight showed some swing and miss stuff. The Orioles offense meanwhile, showed just enough stuff to get a one-run lead. But the Orioles bullpen could not close it out. Oakland scored twice in the...

Orioles hit five home runs, stomp Tigers 12-3 in finale

Ubaldo Jimenez turned in a solid start and the Orioles just kept whacking the ball out of the yard on Sunday afternoon. The Orioles put on their own version of the MLB Home Run Derby on Sunday afternoon, and because there was an actual game happening, the result was very bad for the other team. The O’s ended up totaling 12 runs, seven of which scored over five home runs early in the game. The Tigers managed only a single homer, scoring three runs total. Welcome to August baseball at OPACY. Ubaldo Jimenez did his part, allowing nearly every Tiger he faced to reach base, but only...

Sunday afternoon Orioles game thread: vs. Tigers, 1:35

The Orioles turn to Ubaldo Jimenez to try to pick up a series split against the Tigers on Sunday afternoon before they head out west. Last night was a good night for the Orioles. They came back to beat the Tigers, got the 10,000th home run in Orioles history, and even better, two of the opponents they’re chasing in the wild card race, the Angels and the Rays, lost their games. Today, they will look to try to pull off something similar again, although obviously the 10,000th home run has already been hit. It’s not a must-win game, though it will be mighty disappointing if the Orioles drop...

Baltimore Orioles get unexpected walk-off win against the Royals

Baseball is a strange game and this Baltimore Orioles‘ win certainly proved it. With a roster full of All-Stars, the Baltimore Orioles get a win thanks to Ubaldo Jimenez and Craig Gentry. In fact, Jimenez pitched an absolutely fabulous game against the tough Kansas City Royals who just added power-hitter Melky Cabrera to their roster. Jimenez pitches well, Orioles offense can't hit in 5-1 loss to Rays

Jimenez pitches well, Orioles offense can't hit in 5-1 loss to Rays

Ubaldo Jimenez was actually pretty dang good for once. The Orioles offense was not very good at all, though, so they lost the series finale to the Rays. There are a lot of ways to lose a baseball game. The Orioles have explored many over the course of the 2017 season. For all that the starting rotation is deservedly maligned, it's not why they lose all of the games they lose. So it went on Wednesday afternoon, when Ubaldo Jimenez was fine and the Orioles still lost to the Rays, 5-1. If you look in the box score, it's Jimenez who takes the loss for the game. One Jimenez mistake turned into a...
