Tigers’ Victor Martinez is swinging and missing more often in 2016

The Tigers’ slugger has become more aggressive at the plate, but it is not paying off. Two months into the season, few Detroit Tigers were finding more success at the plate than Victor Martinez. After a disappointing 2015 that was marked by injury and underachieving, this was the start that both the slugger and the team wanted to see. By the end of May 2016, Martinez owned a .343 batting average and 145 wRC+, putting him among the most productive Tigers and designated hitters around the league. Martinez tagged up from third base with the bases loaded in the second inning, after Steven Moya hit a sharp line...

Tigers 3, Blue Jays 2: Matt Boyd, Victor Martinez deliver huge win

Boyd baffled his former team for five innings in a big road win. Prior to Saturday’s game, FiveThirtyEight gave the Tigers a 35 percent chance of beating the Toronto Blue Jays. Well, so much for the numbers. Matt Boyd baffled the Jays for five innings, and Victor Martinez hit a go-ahead home run for a massive 3-2 win at Rogers Centre. The Tigers opened the scoring in the top of the second. They loaded the bases with no outs, but were in danger of coming up empty after Victor Martinez was thrown out at the plate by left fielder Ezequiel Carrera after Steven Moya flied out. However, Jarrod...
