Sadness: Mets 5, Phillies 1

Sadness: Mets 5, Phillies 1

Photo by Sarah Stier/ Just a lot of sadness. The Phillies really could have used a win today. The past few days have been rough for Phillies players and fans alike. On Sunday night, the Phillies became the punching bag of the baseball world after the infamous Alec Bohm call. The rainout on Monday meant that the blown call discourse lasted another twenty-four hours, and it’s going to end up forcing the Phillies to either give Vince Velasquez a start or play a bullpen game later this week. Then, the Phillies went on to lose both games of their doubleheader against the...

Same old Vince Velasquez costs Phillies first 2021 loss

Back on December 2, the Philadelphia Phillies tendered a contract to Vince Velasquez — keeping him in red pinstripes for another season. To fans, this was what seemed like the 100th chance the right-hander has received following disappointment after disappointment. Now, this was when Ned Rice was interim GM and it was unclear what direction the […] Same old Vince Velasquez costs Phillies first 2021 loss - That Balls Outta Here - That Balls Outta Here - A Philadelphia Phillies Fan Site - News, Blogs, Opinion and More

Gamethread 4/7: Mets at Phillies

Photo by Mitchell Leff/ Getaway day matinee After a deflating loss last night, the Phillies look to rebound today in a matinee with the Mets. The soft underbelly of their bullpen - the long relievers - were exposed last night to the wrecking ball of the Mets offense. Vince Velasquez and David Hale showed why they’ll mostly be completing low leverage innings in 2021, creating messes for themselves that put the game out of reach. The offense for the Phillies continued their early season power outage, staying stuck on one home run for the team so far this season. Here...

Velasquez struggles out of the bullpen; Phillies fall to Mets

The storybook start to the Phillies bullpen came to an end on Tuesday night as Vince Velasquez stumbled, allowing four runs in less than two innings in an 8-4 defeat to the Mets. Velasquez looked spectacular in his first inning of work, sitting down Michael Conforto, Pete Alonso, and Dominic Smith, all on strikes in just 14 pitches to preserve a one-run deficit. Things turned disastrous though in the seventh when he walked four batters that all eventually came in to score. Velasquez is supposed to be the multiple-inning guy in this new-look bullpen. He has electric stuff but has far too...

Rise and Phight: 4/7/2027

Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports They had to lose at some point, right? The Mets are a good team. We can readily admit that now. They had the Phillies down and out before a few fluky errors on Tuesday night turned a win for New York into a somewhat stunning loss. Last night, they battled out at bats, strung together some hits and scored runs. For a team that, on paper, looked like a World Series title contender, it’s what they were expected to do anyway. The story of the night though was Vince Velasquez and his odd pitching line. 1 1⁄3 IP, 0 H, 4 BB, 4 K That...

Phillies: Another former No. 1 pick rejoins Mickey Moniak

Vince Velasquez and Brett Oberholtzer had long thought to be the only returns from the December 2015 Ken Giles trade with the Houston Astros that wound up making a contribution with the Philadelphia Phillies at the big-league level. That may change. A former No. 1 overall pick from the 2013 draft — selected one pick ahead of Kris […] Phillies: Another former No. 1 pick rejoins Mickey Moniak - That Balls Outta Here - That Balls Outta Here - A Philadelphia Phillies Fan Site - News, Blogs, Opinion and More

Phillies caution will benefit Spencer Howard in long run

Despite a potential trade destination popping up in the American League, the Philadelphia Phillies appear to be adding Vince Velasquez to their 26-man Opening Day roster. This decision not so much stems from the right-hander’s success this spring — logging only 3 2/3 innings and having not appeared since March 9 due to injury — but rather the team’s […] Phillies caution will benefit Spencer Howard in long run - That Balls Outta Here - That Balls Outta Here - A Philadelphia Phillies Fan Site - News, Blogs, Opinion and More

Phillies may finally have a Vince Velasquez trade partner

With less than 10 days until Opening Day, the Toronto Blue Jays are in need of pitching, and they just might have a trade partner in the Philadelphia Phillies. Vince Velasquez would be an expendable option if the price is right. The Blue Jays reportedly have interest in adding to their pitching staff, according to […] Phillies may finally have a Vince Velasquez trade partner - That Balls Outta Here - That Balls Outta Here - A Philadelphia Phillies Fan Site - News, Blogs, Opinion and More
