Resurgent Reddick, Miley help Astros to sweep of Royals

Josh Reddick and Wade Miley bounced back to help the Astros finish off a sweep. Of all the players on the Astros roster, Josh Reddick and Wade Miley have endured some of the worst stretches lately. But that all changed on Sunday as they led the Astros to a 12-3 win to complete the three-game […] Resurgent Reddick, Miley help Astros to sweep of Royals - Climbing Tals Hill - Climbing Tals Hill - A Houston Astros Fan Site - News, Blogs, Opinion and More

Game Recap: Astros finish the sweep, defeat the Royals 12-3 on Reddick’s big day and Miley’s bounce back

Jay Biggerstaff-USA TODAY Sports The Astros are now 98-53 on the year, and tied for best record in the Majors After two straight performances where he failed to get even two outs, Wade Miley needed to show signs of a rebound. The offense would be fine, but the Astros need their fourth starter ready for the playoffs. Thankfully, Sunday looked a lot closer to the Wade Miley from the first twenty-eight starts of the year. Sure, it’s the Royals, but you have to start somewhere, and the Astros ultimately won 12-3. It seemed like the problems might resurface in the first when the Royals...

Peter G. Aiken Can Miley get it done? Join the discussion. Besides the race for best record in the AL, the main significance of this game is to find out if Wade Miley's last two starts were flukes. In those starts he got only one out and allowed 12 runs. Clearly, if he doesn't turn it around today, his usability in the playoffs is clearly in doubt. Wasn't it exciting to see Kyle Tucker go 4 for 4 last night. Go Stros.

What in good heavens is going on with Wade Miley?

Photo by Bob Levey/ Figured to be a key contributor in a postseason run, there are now some concerns surrounding the left-hander. Until the last week of August, Wade Miley’s continued major league resurgence was proceeding smoothly. Through August 24, the southpaw posted a quality 3.13 ERA in 152 1⁄3 innings as he became a key cog in the Astros’ rotation. The return on investment for a one-year, $4.5 million commitment for Houston was quite good. He did post a then season-worst .384 wOBA in August, but there didn’t seem to be much reason for concern. Then the first two starts...

Astros: The Miley Chronicles Vol. 13, How the Turntables

The Astros have to be concerned about Wade Miley who’s 13-5 on the year and a few weeks ago was ranked number three behind Justin Verlander and Gerrit Cole. After a stellar start to the year for Astros pitcher Wade Miley, something doesn’t seem right when you look at his last three starts. So what is […] Astros: The Miley Chronicles Vol. 13, How the Turntables - Climbing Tals Hill - Climbing Tals Hill - A Houston Astros Fan Site - News, Blogs, Opinion and More

Will Wade Miley redeem his last starting meltdown? Join the discussion. It’s been a helluva ride being an Astros fan lately. Thirty six runs in two games. Are you kidding me. And did you the the triple decker homer by Yordan last night? Tonight Wade Mile goes to the mound hoping for a comeback start, facing Tanner Roark of the A’s. Despite their humiliation last...

The Astros play-off rotation: Are Zack Greinke and Wade Miley good enough?

The Astros play-off rotation: Are Zack Greinke and Wade Miley good enough?

Thomas B. Shea-USA TODAY Sports No problem at 1 & 2, but then what? Pray for Rain? One of the immortal phrases passed down from baseball lore is this ditty from the 1950’s. “Spahn and Sain, and pray for rain.” It noted the contrast between the greatness at the top of Milwaukee Braves’ rotation in 1953, and how poorly the rest of the rotation pitched. Warren Spahn and Johnny Sain weren’t the greatest top of rotation duo in history. Their combined ERA+ was 311. (100 = league average) Still, that’s better than the famed Sandy Koufax, Don Drysdale 1965 combo, combined 278, or the...

Astros take Game 2 over Mariners, 7-4

Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports Stros overcome another shaky start, but bullpen and balanced attack assure victory Another shaky night for an Astros starter, and another Astros victory nontheless. Thursday night Wade Miley started the game by surrendering five runs without getting an out. It seemed the Astros starter for last night’s game, Framber Valdez, was setting the Astros on a similar glide path when he walked four Mariners in the first inning. Somehow, along with two singles, Valdez managed to escape the inning giving up only two runs, thanks to leaving the bases loaded with only...

Astros win a wild 13 inning bout after being down by seven

The Astros would never say die after an early seven-run deficit, coming back not once but twice to defeat the Seattle Mariners 11-9 in the 13th inning. After a Wade Miley meltdown, the Astros found themselves down 5-0 before they would even get to swing a bat. Game Recap: Houston’s epic, thirteen-inning comeback, retold via comparisons to players from Astros’ history

Game Recap: Houston’s epic, thirteen-inning comeback, retold via comparisons to players from Astros’ history

Thomas B. Shea-USA TODAY Sports What initially looked like a blowout slowly became a back-and-forth extra innings affair Tonight’s game was a ride. Wade Miley, who entered game 1 of this penultimate homestand with the third-best ERA in the AL behind Justin Verlander and Gerrit Cole, had an incredibly rough start. It looked like it was going to be a boring, uncompetitive game, so I decided to take mhatter’s advice and try something different to spice things up: a game recap where each inning was compared to a different player from Astros history. Pick one Astro from franchise...

MLB Playoff Rotations, and Zack Grienke’s first month in Houston

MLB Playoff Rotations, and Zack Grienke’s first month in Houston

Erik Williams-USA TODAY Sports How has Greinke’s first month gone, and how does the Astros’ madeover rotation stand up against the rest of the league? With the calendar’s turn from August to September, we officially passed the one-month mark since the Trade Deadline, which of course means that we now have a month’s worth of games featuring the Astros’ new number three starter, Zack Greinke. So how have things worked out for Houston thus far since assembling their triple-ace rotation? Well, Justin Verlander and Gerrit Cole have looked just as dominant, and Wade Miley looks about...

Astros Crawfish Potluck: August 31st, 2019

Nick Turchiaro-USA TODAY Sports Start your weekend by telling us the best Astros links around The Astros were able to shake off the finale against the Rays and play a solid match of baseball in the opener against Toronto. It was an encouraging outing from Joe Biagini, who had looked a little shaky in his previous appearances. This time though, he was able to cruise through two drama-less innings against his former club. That was especially helpful considering that Wade Miley was barely able to make it through 4 innings before turning it over to the pen. Anyways, the boys are back at...

Photo by Vaughn Ridley/ A pivotal 3-run homer by George Springer gave the Astros the lead for good in the series opener with upstart Toronto The Astros are following up one AL East opponent with another this week, squaring off against the Blue Jays after taking a series against the formidable Rays in their last set. The Jays sent former Astros farmhand Trent Thornton to the hill opposite Wade Miley, and for much of the early going, it was advantage Toronto. Miley’s location was off in the early going, as he issued five free passes in the first two frames. A pickoff of Cavan Biggio at...
