Wil Nieves firing in starting position

CBSSports.com Fantasy — Diamondbacks backup catcher Wil Nieves was 3 for 3 and drove in a run for the second-straight game during a 3-2 victory over Colorado Thursday night. Nieves, who also had the game-winning sacrifice fly Wednesday, has not had an RBI in consecutive games since Aug. 24-25, 2009, while with the Nationals. The 35-year-old has started just three games this season but has had a hit in each for a .500 batting average. He also has three RBI; starting catcher Miguel Montero has just 10 in 21 games.

Jorge De La Rosa's scoreless streak snapped

CBSSports.com Fantasy — Rockies starter Jorge De La Rosa had his scoreless streak snapped at 18 innings and he suffered his second loss of the season Thursday night against the Diamondbacks. De La Rosa (2-2), who made his fifth start of the season, had his streak snapped in the second inning. The left-hander surrendered a run scoring single to Wil Nieves and then a two-run home run to Paul Goldschmidt in the fourth for his only damage of the night. He surrendered three runs and seven hits in six innings of work in a 3-2 defeat. He struck out one and walked three on 96 pitches, 58 for strikes.De La Rosa has a 2.86 ERA...

Arizona Republic — The Diamondbacks released catcher Rod Barajas on Monday, meaning veteran Wil Nieves will serve as the backup to Miguel Montero. Barajas, 37, came up through the Diamondbacks organization and was a member of the 2001 World Series team.
