Trade rumors: Colorado Rockies, Chicago Cubs a fit for Willson Contreras deal?

Could the Colorado Rockies and Chicago Cubs explore an offseason trade that would boost Colorado’s catching corps? That’s the question being asked by MLBTradeRumors in this article, wondering if the Colorado Rockies would be a partner for the Cubs when it comes to finding a new home for catcher Willson Contreras. On the surface, Contreras […] Trade rumors: Colorado Rockies, Chicago Cubs a fit for Willson Contreras deal? - Rox Pile - Rox Pile - Colorado Rockies News, Rumors, and Fan Community

Chicago Cubs: Front office needs to ramp up talks with Willson Contreras

The Chicago Cubs front office made the call to cut ties with most of the core players this summer – but one holdover remains: two-time All-Star catcher Willson Contreras. Among the multitude of areas that require attention this offseason is attempting to work out a long-term extension with Contreras, who will otherwise go through arbitration […] Chicago Cubs: Front office needs to ramp up talks with Willson Contreras - Cubbies Crib - Cubbies Crib - Chicago Cubs News, Rumors, and Fan Community

Chicago Cubs Rumors: Willson Contreras to the Marlins this offseason?

The Chicago Cubs have already traded away most of their core from the mid to late 2010s, though catcher Willson Contreras remains on the team. However, his days calling Chicago home may be numbered. With one year left on his contract, the trade rumors are undoubtedly going to swirl as we head into the offseason. Chicago Cubs: Willson Contreras could be playing his last games in Chicago

The Chicago Cubs kicked off a full-scale rebuild – or a re-tooling if you ask the front office – at the July trade deadline, trading Javier Baez, Anthony Rizzo and Kris Bryant, among others, in a flurry of moves. Two-time All-Star catcher Willson Contreras is now the only position player left from the 2016 World […] Chicago Cubs: Willson Contreras could be playing his last games in Chicago - Cubbies Crib - Cubbies Crib - Chicago Cubs News, Rumors, and Fan Community

2021 Cubs Heroes and Goats: Game 158

Photo by Justin K. Aller/ Hark! The Cubs have won a game! I hope we see the image of Codi Heuer and Willson Contreras a whole lot more in 2022. I think Heuer has some very interesting potential at the back of the bullpen. It would seem likely that the Cubs bullpen will be a wide-open competition in spring training 2022. It’s hard to see the team making a huge splash on a free agent reliever this winter. With a stated intention of trying to compete in 2022, they are going to need a fairly aggressive roster overhaul. I’d think they’ll go with quantity in the bullpen...

Chicago Cubs vs. Pittsburgh Pirates preview, Wednesday 9/29, 5:35 CT

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports The Cubs look to even up their series in Pittsburgh. Wednesday notes: A FOUR-HIT RARITY: Nick Martini’s four-hit game Tuesday was just the fourth by any Cub this year. The others: Willson Contreras May 12, Rafael Ortega August 1 and Robinson Chirinos August 13. Oddly, the Cubs lost all four of those games. Ortega’s was the game in which he hit three home runs. AGAINST THE NEW GUY: Today marks the fourth time this season the Cubs will face a starting pitcher making his big league debut (Roansy Contreras of the Pirates), with the...

Chicago Cubs will either extend or trade Willson Contreras this offseason

We all know what happens when guys are in their final year of team control. The fog of persistent speculation and uncertainty can settle in, hindering performance and proving costly. Don’t believe me? Just ask the recent Chicago Cubs core – all of whom read the writing on the wall after a devastating 11-game losing […] Chicago Cubs will either extend or trade Willson Contreras this offseason - Cubbies Crib - Cubbies Crib - Chicago Cubs News, Rumors, and Fan Community

Twins 9, Cubs 5: Back to the drawing board

Twins 9, Cubs 5: Back to the drawing board

Photo by Jonathan Daniel/ Cubs pitching just wasn’t very good Tuesday. Of all the baseball games the Chicago Cubs have played in the 2021 season, Tuesday night’s was most certainly one of them. That’s about the most positive thing I can say about a very long, mostly awful 9-5 loss to the Twins on a fall-like evening at Wrigley Field. Alec Mills started this game off poorly, with hits allowed to the first two Twins batters. A stolen base and a bad throw by Willson Contreras scored the first Twins run and a sacrifice fly made it 2-0 within the game’s first four...

Cubs 6, Brewers 4: Patrick Wisdom and Frank Schwindel lead a late-inning comeback

Cubs 6, Brewers 4: Patrick Wisdom and Frank Schwindel lead a late-inning comeback

Benny Sieu-USA TODAY Sports The Tank’s RBI single gave the Cubs the lead and Wisdom’s 27th HR set a franchise record. For the Chicago Cubs, Sunday ended a lot better than it began (though not before things got way too close near the end). The Cubs entered Sunday’s game having lost 11 straight to the Brewers, and hadn’t won a game in Milwaukee since April. And they headed into the eighth inning of this one trailing 2-1 and with just two hits in the game. But then things started improving, and quickly. Willson Contreras led off the inning as a pinch hitter and had...

Chicago Cubs lack a clear succession plan if they trade Willson Contreras

Willson Contreras blasted a mammoth game-tying home run in Saturday’s loss to the Brewers, standing and admiring the shot – which measured in just shy of 470 feet. But it wasn’t enough, with the Chicago Cubs dropping an 11th consecutive matchup with Milwaukee. The home run was Contreras’ 20th of the year, marking the third […] Chicago Cubs lack a clear succession plan if they trade Willson Contreras - Cubbies Crib - Cubbies Crib - Chicago Cubs News, Rumors, and Fan Community

Chicago Cubs: 2 off-the-wall and 1 likely Willson Contreras trade destinations
