Wilmer Flores improving, still no timetable for return

The Mets’ infielder, who’s been suffering with a knee infection, appears to be on the mend. Wilmer Flores, who’s been sidelined with an infection in his knee, appears to be making progress in rehab, according to New York Times reporter James Wagner. Flores was placed on the disabled list this past Friday after he had to be hospitalized with septic arthritis, i.e., a joint infection. The infection was apparently serious enough that it required Flores to be put on an IV. It’s difficult to tell how long it could take Flores to recover, as people respond very differently to infections,...

Mets call up Matt Reynolds, send down Sean Gilmartin

The Mets have returned to a five-man bench and seven-man bullpen. The Mets have called up Matt Reynolds from Triple-A Las Vegas and have sent down Sean Gilmartin in a move to shore up their bench. The team has been beset by a rash of injuries that have taken out everyone from Lucas Duda to Travis d’Arnaud to Wilmer Flores. Even Yoenis Cespedes hasn’t been immune to the bug. With David Wright still not ready to play and Jose Reyes looking like the second coming of Mario Mendoza, the Mets have been desperate for bats on the bench. Enter Matt Reynolds. The infielder has been hitting a...

Home runs not enough for New York Mets as Washington Nationals complete sweep

Not much has gone right for the New York Mets over the past week. On  Friday, Yoenis Cespedes, Jacob deGrom, Wilmer Flores, Lucas Duda, and Travis d’Arnaud all joined the growing list of injured roster players. Mets vs. Nationals recap: Mets swept, but Conforto shines

The Mets lost their fourth straight and got swept by the Nationals. Things have not been going well for the New York Mets in the last week or so. Coming into Sunday night, they had lost seven of their last eight games to the division-rival Marlins, Phillies, and Nationals and had been without Travis d’Arnaud, Yoenis Cespedes, Lucas Duda, and Wilmer Flores due to injuries. And Sunday night did little to remedy those problems, as the Mets were once again bested by the Nationals to finish off a clean three-game sweep. It was the Mets’ fourth-consecutive loss. Things got...

Mets place Duda, Flores on DL

The Mets have put both first baseman Lucas Duda and infielder Wilmer Flores on the 10-day disabled list, the team announced on Twitter. Duda is sideined with a hyperextended elbow, while Flores has a knee infection. The Mets brought up infielder TJ Rivera and pitcher Sean Gilmartin to replace both players. Duda hurt his elbow on a play to first base in the fifth inning during the Mets’ 5-4 win against the Phillies on Wednesday night. Duda had to leave the game because of the injury. For Duda, this is his second injury in as many seasons. He missed four months last season with a stress...

Mets send Lucas Duda and Wilmer Flores to the disabled list, call up T.J. Rivera and Sean Gilmartin

The Mets are more injured than we previously thought. Not only have the Mets lost five of their last six games, but the club is undergoing a rash of injuries, the likes of which we have unfortunately seen before. More bad news arrived on Friday afternoon, when the club announced that Lucas Duda and Wilmer Flores will be going on the 10-day disabled list, with T.J. Rivera and Sean Gilmartin taking their places on the 25-man roster. Rivera will start at third base on Friday night. Duda hyperextended his elbow on Wednesday night, but we didn’t know until now that the injury would warrant an...
