2017 Red Sox Review: Xander Bogaerts

2017 Red Sox Review: Xander Bogaerts

A look back at the year that was for Xander Bogaerts Welcome to the Red Sox Review series. It’s a fairly standard feature in which we will review the year that was for every player who made a decently large impact on the Red Sox this year. How do I come up with that definition? Completely arbitrarily, of course! The list of players I’m using can be seen here, and if I am missing anyone please let me know in the comments. Anyway, for the players who are included we will look at the positives of their 2017, the negatives, review their One Big Question from the preseason and look ahead to...

10/9/17: ALDS/NLDS Open Game Thread

Another day of 4 playoff games woooooo Hello and welcome to another day of playoff games all day. Three teams are facing elimination today. Could be a big day for road team celebrations at the home team’s park, which are hilarious to see as an impartial viewer, but are the absolute worst case scenario for home team fans. Buckle up, Sox, Yankees, and D-Backs fans. Could be a wild one. Xander Bogaerts, John Farrell and do-or-die managing

Xander Bogaerts, John Farrell and do-or-die managing

How should John Farrell be approaching his lineup construction? The Red Sox offense is in a strange spot as we head into Monday’s Game Four, another win-or-go-home contest for this Boston team. They were mostly bad for the final week of the regular season, mostly bad (or at least mediocre) over the course of the entire regular season, and have been mostly bad in this series. Of course, they were much better on Sunday in putting a big number on the scoreboard in a game that was the first in which they did not face a legitimate ace. That’s not a coincidence. Still, there are some question...

Xander Bogerts could be an October X-Factor

Xander Bogerts could be an October X-Factor

Is Bogaerts going to be the offensive boost the Sox need? Over the last month of the regular season, Xander Bogaerts hit.284/.393/.411. Prior to this, he’d hit .271/.333/.401 for the first five months of the season season. The most notable difference over the past month hasn’t been his slightly heightened batting average, nor extra power reminiscent of his 2016 form, but his ability to take a pitch and get a free pass to first base. His line over the past month looks pretty similar to his career playoff line - .282/.370/.410, albeit in only played 15 postseason games. From an outside...

Red Sox Inch Closer To Title Despite Pounding By 'Stros

Red Sox Inch Closer To Title Despite Pounding By 'Stros

Eduardo Rodriguez did not raise his post-season stock much last night in a 12-2 defeat at the hands of Boston's likely ALDS opponents. E-Rod lasted just 1.2 innings—coughing up five earned runs. Boston's meager offense mustered just two runs on six hits (compared to Houston's 17). Xander Bogaerts and Mitch Moreland (HR) had the RBIs. Luckily, The Evil Ones choked in the Bronx, so the Magic Number to capture the AL East flag is down to one. ()

Sox Cut Magic Number To 2, Bail Our Porcello, 10-7

Sox Cut Magic Number To 2, Bail Our Porcello, 10-7

The most important thing to come out of last night game is that the Red Sox are an inch closer to the division crown. Despite another lousy performance from Rick Porcello (5.2 innings, 5 ER), Boston's offense came off the mat to score nine runs in the first three innings. Monster shots by Hanley Ramirez (solo HR) and Xander Bogaerts (3-run HR) led the way in the eventual 10-7 win. Dustin Pedroia, Mitch Moreland (solo HR) and Rajai Davis each had two hits apiece. David Price was nasty in 1.1 innings of work—striking out three. Boston enjoys a three-game lead over The Bronx Embalmers with...

Boston Red Sox: Xander Bogaerts locking in for the playoffs

Don’t look now, but Xander Bogaerts is locked in. Sure, you could argue that the right-handed hitter has shown signs of figuring it out at the plate multiple times this year. Each of those have ended in disappointment, and a spiral back down to struggling. This time though, things are different for the Boston Red Sox shortstop. Blue Jays Hold Early Lead to Spoil Red Sox

Blue Jays Hold Early Lead to Spoil Red Sox

three plus hours, three injuries, three homers and one ejection Blue Jays: 6 Red Sox: 4 Josh Donaldson started out the game by bringing some early rain to Fenway Park. In true JD fashion, he waited for Buck and Pat to tell everyone he hasn’t hit a home run in five days before launching a Drew Pomeranz hanging cutter deep into the seats for his 31st of the season. JD has now hit 14 home runs in the first inning this year. Sadly, our bliss was dampened for a short while as the Red Sox got to Brett Anderson quickly in the bottom of the 1st. Xander Bogaerts singled, advanced to third on a...
