Alejandro De Aza inks minor league deal with Athletics

The outfielder had a less-than-stellar year with the Mets. After a forgettble season with the Mets in 2016, Alejandro De Aza has signed a minor league deal with an invitation to spring training with the Oakland Athletics. The A’s will be De Aza’s fourth team since 2014. He will most likely compete for a reserve role on the bench with the A’s. De Aza signed a one-year, $5.75 million deal in the 2015 offseason, expecting to serve as the primary center fielder in 2016. That plan was quickly thrown out the window once Yoenis Cespedes fell unexpectedly into the Mets’ lap and pushed De...

Mets trade rumors: Jay Bruce likely to be traded soon

Mets trade rumors: Jay Bruce likely to be traded soon

With a month to go before spring training, the Mets are still looking to trade the left-handed slugger. Although the Mets have been quiet this offseason since the team re-signed Yoenis Cespedes, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports that Jay Bruce is likely to be traded soon. For the past few months, there have been a number of trade talks surrounding Bruce and Curtis Granderson, though the Mets have always preferred a deal that ships Bruce out of New York. The left-handed-hitting right fielder finished last season with a .250/.309/.506 line and 33 home runs, but he hit just .219/.294/.391 with...

Yoenis Cespedes’s agents used an interesting stat when they negotiated Cespedes’s contract with the Mets. The Las Vegas 51s unveiled a new logo to mark their 35th anniversary. Around the NL East Pitcher Matt Wisler regressed for the Braves last...

Edwin Encarnacion still a tough fit for the Cardinals

Edwin Encarnacion still a tough fit for the Cardinals

Even as his market falls, it’s hard to see Edwin wearing the Birds on the Bat Yoenis Cespedes headlined this year’s free agent market, but after he re-signed with the Mets, and Justin Turner re-signed with the Dodgers, Edwin Encarnacion has been the top name left. Encarnacion rejected a $80M contract over four years with the Blue Jays, and since then, that offer has been taken off the table, and he’s been unable to find a similar deal since then. Yesterday, his agent entertained the idea of signing a deal like the one Cespedes signed last year. That deal was worth $75M over three...

The ideal Mets’ outfield does not include Andrew McCutchen

We Met fans are starting to get a little antsy. Since Conor Gillaspie deposited a Jeurys Familia slider into the right field bullpen at Citi Field, it has been a winter of relative inactivity – Yoenis Cespedes notwithstanding. It’s nearly…Read more →
