Mets vs. Yankees Recap: A good bullpen is hard to find

Mets vs. Yankees Recap: A good bullpen is hard to find

Rafael Montero was good, but the Yankees powered up against the Met bullpen. After a strong start to the game, the Mets blew a late lead against the Yankees to fall 4-2. A pair of solo home runs from Curtis Granderson and Yoenis Cespedes gave Rafael Montero an early lead, but Aaron Judge tied the game in the sixth with a solo shot of his own. Two more Yankee home runs in the ninth gave Dellin Betances all he needed to close out the loss. The Mets managed a single in both the first and second innings, but couldn’t push any runners across the plate in either frame. That...

Final Score: Yankees 4, Mets 2—Bombs away

Some late home runs from the Bronx Bombers wasted a good start from Rafael Montero. The Mets fell 4-2 to the Yankees in the first game of the Subway Series. Curtis Granderson and Yoenis Cespedes both launched solo home runs to give the Mets an early lead, but that was unfortunately not enough to get Rafael Montero his third career win. Aaron Judge blasted a game-tying home run in the sixth, and Aaron Hicks and Gary Sanchez both homered in the eighth to give the Yankees all the runs they needed for the win. The late home runs spoiled the night for Montero, who made one of the best starts of...

The relative values of Jay Bruce and Yoenis Cespedes

Since the middle of the 2015 season, we’ve seen a spike in home run production. The increase has been so drastic that this past offseason we saw general managers essentially being indifferent to acquiring power. The prevailing thought has been…Read more →

Mets Morning News: Sell, sell, sell!

Mets Morning News: Sell, sell, sell!

Your Sunday morning dose of Mets and MLB news, notes, and links. Meet the Mets Steven Matz is having a hard time lately. Last night he was actually pretty good, but he was rewarded with three total hits from his offense and a hard-luck loss. Yoenis Cespedes provided the only scoring with a solo home run, and the Mets fell to the Phillies 3-1. The rubber match is this afternoon. Choose your recap: Amazin’ Avenue short and long, ESPN, MLB.com, New York Times, Daily News, New York Post, Newsday, NJ.com, Bergen Record. Aaron Nola stares down Yoenis Cespedes and the Mets, becomes The Man on Phillies' staff

Aaron Nola did more Saturday night than dominate the Mets in his latest gem. He became The Man of the Phillies' staff in their 3-1 win. By Jim Salisbury

Final Score: Phillies 3, Mets 1-No luck against Nola

Final Score: Phillies 3, Mets 1-No luck against Nola

The offense was stymied by Aaron Nola. The Mets’ offense was no where to be found in the 3-1 loss to the Phillies. Steven Matz was in desperate need of a good outing, and while he wasn’t great he much improved. He hadn’t allowed a hit until a weak grounder spelled trouble in the fifth. After a sacrifice bunt, the Phillies picked up a couple of two-out hits to give themselves a 2-1 lead. Matz was good but Phillies starter Aaron Nola was dominant. The Mets’ offense could not generate much against him. He only allowed two hits, one of which was a Yoenis Cespedes home run. The other...

Rosario Snaps 9th Inning Tie With First Career Homer As Mets Edge Phillies

Final Score: Mets 7, Phillies 6—Be a Little Surprised

Amed Rosario homer wins it for the Mets in Dominic Smith’s debut. In a back-and-forth affair in Philadelphia, the final “forth” went the way of the Mets—as it has tended to of late at Citizens Bank Park. Seth Lugo struggled early, surrendering three runs in the first inning. A Michael Conforto bomb leading off the second inning cut the lead to 3-1, and a Yoenis Cespedes three-run home run the following inning gave the Mets a 4-3 lead. After the Phillies knotted the game in the bottom of the third, the Mets regained the lead in the fifth when a Neil Walker single plated Amed...

Mets vs. Phillies Recap: deGrom and some bombs

Mets vs. Phillies Recap: deGrom and some bombs

A rare happy recap! Even if the Mets are bad, they’re not as bad as the Phillies, a fact reinforced by the 10-0 thrashing the Mets put on Thursday night. Jacob deGrom righted the ship with a fantastic outing, and the offense exploded to support their ace. Neil Walker broke out of his post-DL malaise, recording four hits with a home run, while Wilmer Flores finished a triple shy of the cycle. Michael Conforto and Curtis Granderson also went deep in the win. Wilmer Flores got the fireworks started early. Yoenis Cespedes doubled and Michael Conforto walked with two outs in...
