Cubs vs. Dodgers at Mesa preview, Wednesday 3/20, 9:05 CT

Once again, under the lights at Sloan Park. MESA, Arizona — Yu Darvish says he’ll be just fine after leaving his start Tuesday with a blister: “I don’t feel any pain,” Darvish said. “It’s good for next outing.” When the issue last flared on April 2, 2013, it came on a cutter in the later innings of a start against the Astros. With history on the line, Darvish continued to pitch through the problem for two or three innings, losing his bid for a perfect game and a no-hitter in the ninth inning of a 14-strikeout performance for the Rangers. After that happened, Darvish made...

Chicago Cubs: You can stop worrying about Yu Darvish now

I know it’s embedded in our bloodstream as Chicago Cubs fans – well, at least it seems as much on social media – but can we calm down about Yu Darvish’s blister? That’s right, I said it. I get the false sense of security considering the Chicago Cubs’ Yu Darvish made multiple minor league rehab starts […] Chicago Cubs: You can stop worrying about Yu Darvish now - Cubbies Crib - Cubbies Crib - A Chicago Cubs Fan Site - News, Blogs, Opinion and More

Chicago Cubs boast plenty of under-the-radar storylines entering season

By now, you surely know all about the major storylines surrounding the Chicago Cubs heading into the 2019 regular season. What about the overlooked? How will the Chicago Cubs hold up amidst early injuries and setbacks? Can Yu Darvish redeem himself in the second year of his massive contract? Are Kris Bryant and Willson Contreras […] Chicago Cubs boast plenty of under-the-radar storylines entering season - Cubbies Crib - Cubbies Crib - A Chicago Cubs Fan Site - News, Blogs, Opinion and More

Cubs 6, Mariners 4: Yu Darvish leaves game with blister

Fortunately, it doesn’t appear to be anything serious. MESA, Arizona — Well, I told you this would be an odd baseball game. I thought it would be a yawner, something with no predictive value for the season to come at all. The Cubs’ 6-4 win over a team of miscellaneous Mariners minor leaguers and NRI’s instead had several occurrences of significance. The first was Yu Darvish leaving the game with two out in the fifth (and one strike to go to finish the inning) with an apparent blister. Here’s how it looked: Fortunately, it doesn’t seem to be anything serious: Darvish says...

An updated look at the Cubs’ Opening Day 25-man roster

An updated look at the Cubs’ Opening Day 25-man roster

The biggest question: Who’s going to be in the bullpen? The 2019 regular season opens just 10 days from today. The Cubs will be in Arlington, Texas to take on the Rangers. Some of the spots on the Opening Day roster are locks. It seemed when camp opened that almost all 25 would be, but now there are some questions. Those questions particularly pertain to the bullpen, and mostly due to injuries. Let’s take another look at who will be the 25 players in the Cubs dugout on March 28. These are my personal best guesses. Pitchers (13) Starters: Jon Lester, Yu Darvish, Cole Hamels, Kyle...

Chicago Cubs: A healthy Yu Darvish, Cost to watch and more

A healthy Yu Darvish has been making the headlines for the Chicago Cubs this spring. When the new network starts, how much will it cost to watch the Cubs in 2020? This season has been polar opposites of last year, at least so far. The Chicago Cubs‘ Yu Darvish has looked good, says he feels […] Chicago Cubs: A healthy Yu Darvish, Cost to watch and more - Cubbies Crib - Cubbies Crib - A Chicago Cubs Fan Site - News, Blogs, Opinion and More

Chicago Cubs: A healthy Yu Darvish stealing the show so far this spring

A healthy Yu Darvish has taken center stage for the Chicago Cubs this spring, ready to put a year of disappointment and injury behind him – and his team. Last season, right down till I sat in the stands at Wrigley Field watching the Colorado Rockies celebrate their extra-inning Wild Card game win over the […] Chicago Cubs: A healthy Yu Darvish stealing the show so far this spring - Cubbies Crib - Cubbies Crib - A Chicago Cubs Fan Site - News, Blogs, Opinion and More

Cub Tracks ‘hoerns’ in on the fun

Nico, Yu, and other news from the underground. Sweet, Jane. No kale. Cubs win!Final: #Cubs 11, White Sox 9. pic.twitter.com/3pauBASR5l— Chicago Cubs (@Cubs) March 15, 2019 Cubs’ scrubs win. Al has the recap. Yu Darvish has jokes. The prevailing narrative is your basic ‘remains to be seen’ stuff ... which makes sense, really, even if outlier Tony Andracki advocates freaking out. One ... small sample size, spring training, yadda yadda, and two, different environment as far as climate and pressure/expectations, people working on stuff instead of unleashing everything...

The Cubs have not made a decision, but Yu Darvish would love to face his former Rangers teammates on opening weekend

The Cubs have not made a decision, but Yu Darvish would love to face his former Rangers teammates on opening weekend

The Chicago Cubs have not made a decision on starting pitchers for the opening series against the Rangers beyond opening day starter Jon Lester. But, try as he might, Yu Darvish can’t help but make a case to pitch in the opening series against his former team. Asked about the possibility of facing the Rangers, Darvish tried to demur, but couldn’t.“It’s up to Joe Maddon; I don’t care,” he said after pitching four innings against a Rangers’ split squad roster in the Cubs’ 2-1 win. Then a moment later, he mentioned Elvis Andrus, Nomar Mazara and Rougned Odor, none of whom made the...

The dog Yu Darvish rescued two years ago passes away

MESA, Ariz. - Sage, the pit bull that Yu Darvish rescued two years ago in East Dallas, has passed away, the pitcher said Thursday.Darvish said the dog, believed to be only three or four years old, passed away earlier this week."When I got here in February, she was fine," Darvish said. "But two weeks ago, she wasn't doing well and when they took her to the vet, they did surgery and found cancer all over her body."Darvish had rescued the dog after reading about it on Twitter. The dog had been fostered in East Dallas in 2017 by Karly Edington. Edington was a receptionist at a veterinary clinic,...

Cubs 2, Rangers 1: Court is now in session

Ryan Court’s sacrifice fly won this game for the Cubs. MESA, Arizona — After allowing 12 runs on back-to-back days when the weather was pretty iffy in the Phoenix area, Cubs pitchers settled down and allowed just one, and Ryan Court hit a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning to give the Cubs a 2-1 win over the Rangers. If that sounds kind of dull, it’s because this game was... kind of dull. Yu Darvish started this game and it came to a screeching halt. He walked the second batter he faced, allowed an infield single, then ran a three-ball count on Matt Davidson before striking him out. A...

Spring Training Game Thread: Texas Rangers at Chicago Cubs/Kansas City Royals

Spring Training Game Thread: Texas Rangers at Chicago Cubs/Kansas City Royals

Double trouble The Texas Rangers are playing two games simultaneously on Thursday. In one, they will be in Mesa, Arizona to take on the Chicago Cubs from Sloan Park. There’s conflicting reports on who will start that game with the Rangers’ website saying Adrian Sampson while John Blake is saying Connor Sadzeck. I wouldn’t bet against Blake. Regardless of which chump they throw out there, the Rangers will face Yu Darvish themselves. Back in surprise, the Rangers will be the “road” team in the own spring home against the Royals where Edinson Volquez will take the mound opposite RHP...

Cubs vs. Rangers at Mesa preview, Thursday 3/14, 3:05 CT

The Cubs return home, and Yu Darvish faces his old team. MESA, Arizona — This will be Yu Darvish’s first appearance against his former team, the Rangers, this spring. He faced them once last spring as well. Depending on how the Cubs announce their rotation, he might wind up facing them in the opening series at Texas. In the grand scheme of things, that probably doesn’t mean much at all. Just a random note on a random March day during spring training. The weather has finally turned nice in the Valley. It will be sunny and in the mid 60s today, then rapidly warm through the 70s into the...

Chicago Cubs have lots of questions that need answers

The Chicago Cubs head into 2019 as a bit of an underdog. A change from past seasons. A slow finish for them, coupled with a hot Brewers team kept them from another division crown. Now, in the Chicago Cubs‘ defense, injuries to Yu Darvish, Kris Bryant, and Brandon Morrow sure didn’t help things and gave […] Chicago Cubs have lots of questions that need answers - Cubbies Crib - Cubbies Crib - A Chicago Cubs Fan Site - News, Blogs, Opinion and More

On Kyle Hendricks, the Cubs’ early off days, and maybe a bullpen addition

Joe Maddon added some intrigue to the Cubs’ early season possibilities. We are now just two weeks until the start of the 2019 regular season with the Cubs facing the Rangers in Arlington, Texas. It’s seemed pretty obvious what the Cubs’ rotation was going to be, given the order the pitchers have been throwing in spring games: Jon Lester, Yu Darvish, Cole Hamels, Kyle Hendricks and Jose Quintana. Except Wednesday, Joe Maddon dropped this little nugget on reporters: The Cubs have decided not to announce their rotation after Jon Lester going opening day . Off day nuances are the reason...
