Sanchez removed early as precaution, Braves settle for series split with Nationals

The Braves bullpen was forced to cover 7 innings of today’s game. Not ideal. The game got off to a great start for the Braves with Anibal Sanchez pitching two solid innings and Nick Markakis getting the lead with a solo shot in the bottom of the second inning. The great start didn’t last long after Sanchez was bounced from the game after taking a liner off the calf to end the second inning as the Braves were forced to turn to rookie Wes Parsons who was making his MLB debut in long relief. Parsons immediately was hit hard along with some bad luck singles which don’t mix well and did...

Nationals 6-3 over Braves to earn split of four-game set in D.C.

Gio Gonzalez snapped an 11-start unbeaten streak with a solid outing this afternoon. Can the Nationals have every Gio start shown on Facebook since that was clearly the difference? Gio Gonzalez put together a solid outing (7 IP, 6 H, 1 ER), snapped an 11-start winless streak, and helped the Washington Nationals earn a split of their four-game series with the Atlanta Braves in the nation’s capital, 6-3 final. Juan Soto took a bases-loaded walk in the third, Anthony Rendon hit a sac fly in the next at bat, and the Nats added runs on a solo homer by Michael A. Taylor in the fourth, an RBI...

Sanchez hurt early as Braves split crucial series with Nationals

For the second time in four games, the Braves lost a starter after two innings. For the second time in four games, the Nationals made the most of it.

Camargo gets a day off in series finale against Nationals

Charlie Culberson is the hot bat right now and draws another start. The Braves are looking to win their four game set against Washington today and will do so with one of their best options on the mound in Anibal Sanchez. After starting last night at third base Charlie Culberson will draw another start to give Johan Camargo a day off. Ender Inciarte is also starting against a left handed pitcher despite the Braves saying Duvall would draw these starts. Here is the lineup Atlanta will roll with today: Today's #Braves lineup for the series finale in DC! #ChopOnGame Preview:...

Inconsistency continues to plague Washington Nationals’ offense...

The Nationals have scored three or fewer runs in 56 of their 114 games this season, or 49.1%. This is tied for ninth worst in the majors. Perhaps the biggest single reason the Washington Nationals are lagging 5.5 games behind the Atlanta Braves and 6 games behind the Philadelphia Phillies is how the three teams have performed in one-run games. The Nats have been an abysmal 11-18 in such contests, good for just a .379 winning percentage. The Braves (15-8, .652) and Phillies (20-11, .645) have thrived. What can we point to when a team is performing exceptionally well (or poorly) in tight...

To maintain some hope to make the playoffs—though, based on yesterday’s game, they really shouldn’t have much—they need to win today and keep winning. Tommy Milone’s fastball got hit, hard, and the lefty gave up three home runs in what ended up an 8-3 loss to the Braves in Nationals Park... Did the clock strike midnight on Tommy Milone’s Cinderella story, or did he just have a bad night on the mound on Wednesday night’s loss to the Atlanta Braves? After giving up eight hits and three runs in five innings on the mound against Miami in his first start back with the Washington Nationals, Tommy Milone held the New York Mets to a run on three hits in seven innings in his second outing, striking out nine of 24 batters he faced in a 5-3...

Braves pound Tommy Milone, beat Nationals 8-3 in D.C.

Early home run barrage leads Braves over Nationals, 8-3

The long ball was a factor. When Tuesday afternoon’s contest came to a close, it was difficult (at least for some) to imagine the Atlanta Braves emerging with a positive overall result this week against the Washington Nationals. However, a bounce-back victory in the nightcap set the table and, on Wednesday, the Braves took a series lead with an 8-3 victory in the nation’s capital. The evening began in ominous fashion, as Mike Foltynewicz allowed a run in the opening inning to place Atlanta in a hole. Fortunately, the deficit was short-lived and (spoiler alert) never appeared again, as...

Culberson, Acuna lead Braves in slug (and glove) fest

Baseball is a sport of unexplainable intricacies. What Charlie Culberson’s doing in 2018 would qualify; and the Nationals, who’ve been victimized by five of his eight homers, would probably concur.
