Giants get huge win against Diamondbacks on Longoria home run

PHOENIX - Swing games could not get swingier than Sunday's. A Giants win and they split a road series against the first-place team to move within five games of the lead with 49 to play. Lose and they fall seven out after dropping three of four at Chase Field. One of the hottest Giants took his biggest swing of the season and got the Giants their split. Evan Longoria homered against Archie Bradley with one out in the eighth inning, a 402-smash onto the overhang just left of straightaway center, to break a tie and send the Giants to a 3-2 victory. ...

Snake Bytes 8/5: Nick the Wick

Nick Ahmed has always done it with the glove. Now he is doing it with the bat, too. Arizona Diamondbacks 9, San Francisco Giants 3 [D’backs.com] Big 1st inning, Ahmed’s 2 HRs key D-backs win - Arizona is back in first place in the National League West after a big win over the Giants and an even bigger loss by the Los Angeles Dodgers at the hands of the Houston Astros. Oh, and the Colorado Rockies crapped the bed again facing the Milwaukee Brewers falling even further behind in the race. Nick Ahmed powered the victory with two home runs on the night, and Ketel Marte also had a monster...

Arizona Diamondbacks 9, San Francisco Giants 3: The sweet flavor of first inning tacos

Mmmm... Delicious! Record: 62-50. Pace: 90-72. Change on 2017: -2. It was a celebration at Chase Field today. Things started with the alumni game, which turned into a bit of a pitching duel. Curt Schilling’s Team Red edged Randy Johnson’s Team Purple 1-0, in the three inning game, with Chris Snyder driving in Augie Ojeda with the game’s sole score in the first inning. The D-backs’ 20th Anniversary Team was then honored, and the good vibes clearly carried over into the meaningful contest. Because, for the second day in a row, the Diamondbacks scored early and scored often, putting...

Arizona Diamondbacks 9, San Francisco Giants 3

As last night, a big first inning gave the D-backs all the offense they would need. For the second game in a row, the Diamondbacks put up five runs on the Giants in the first inning. Steven Souza got it started with a two-run triple, Nick Ahmed followed up with an RBI single, and Ketel Marte’s 10th home-run of the year quickly made it 5-0 to the home team. The Giants weren’t quite dead, and chipped away with a pair of solo home-runs off Clay Buchholz, but he was able to get the big outs when he needed them and stranded the Giants otherwise. He went six innings, allowing two runs on...

Giants’ Duggar homers as another rookie falters in loss to D’backs

PHOENIX - The Giants' goal every year is to win games and develop players. Longtime followers know they have waxed and waned in each endeavor over the years, with prospect growth often taking a back seat. As the 2018 season grinds on, with the Giants at .500 for the 20th time since Opening Day, it becomes clearer by the game that development will jump into the forefront over the final two months. The process can be painful and exhilarating at the same time, as it was in Saturday night's 9-3 loss to the Diamondbacks, which left the Giants 56-56. ...
