Yankees 4, Nationals 5: Sonny Gray stumbles as Juan Soto stuns New York

Yankees 4, Nationals 5: Sonny Gray stumbles as Juan Soto stuns New York

This is one game to forget. This was a frustrating game. The offense showed up, but the Yankees lost to a one-man wrecking crew. It was a slog the whole way through, and I’m just happy it’s over. The Bombers dropped this one to the Nationals by a score of 5 - 4. Tonight’s outing will do little to dispel the narrative that Sonny Gray can’t pitch in New York. He struggled right out the gate, allowing the Nationals to put up a run in the first inning. That happens sometimes, even to the best pitchers. The difference here is that Gray labored. It took him over 30 pitches to record...

Juan Soto homers twice to lift Nationals to 5-4 win over the Yankees...

Juan Soto homered twice, once to left and then to right-center to lift the Nationals to a 5-4 win over the Yankees in the series finale in Yankee Stadium. Juan Soto‘s three-run blast in the fourth put the Washington Nationals up 4-3, and after the Yankees tied it up, the 19-year-old phenom did it again, sending a solo shot to right field, over New York‘s bullpen, and deep into the seats, 436 ft from home to put the Nats up for good, 5-4 final in the Bronx. Fedde in NY: Erick Fedde, the Nationals’ 2014 1st Round pick, debuted with three starts for Washington last season, including one...

Game 63: Sonny For The Two-Game Sweep

In their third attempt of the season, the Yankees and Nationals finally played a full nine innings last night. They had a game suspended last month and another one rained out. New York Yankees vs. Washington Nationals: Sonny Gray vs. Erick Fedde

The Yankees can go for the two-game sweep against the Nationals! Sonny Gray has been on a roll of late. The right-hander owns a 3.38 ERA with a 3.99 FIP over his last seven starts. His overall line is still ugly — 4.81 ERA and 4.31 FIP — but it’s been positive of late. His struggles, however, largely come at Yankee Stadium. He’s going to need to correct that, though, and what better time to start than tonight? Gray draws a tough Nationals lineup, so this should be a representative challenge. Washington meanwhile turns to Erick Fedde as Stephen Strasburg’s replacement. The...

With left-hander CC Sabathia on the mound for the New York Yankees last night, Nationals’ manager Davey Martinez went with an outfield of Adam Eaton, Michael A. Washington Nationals’ right-hander Erick Fedde will make his second start of the season tonight as the Nats take on the New York Yankees again in the Bronx. Washington Nationals’ skipper Davey Martinez told reporters before last night’s game that though they hadn’t yet made a final decision, Erick Fedde was likely going to come up to start against the New York Yankees tonight in the second game of two in Yankee Stadium. “We haven’t decided yet,” Martinez explained. “I could tell you that it’s Fedde’s turn, but we haven’t decided whether we’re going to do that or...

Two mistakes, lack of run support hurt Tanner Roark in Nationals’ 3-0 loss to Yankees...

Didi Gregorius took Tanner Roark deep twice last night in Yankee Stadium, and the Nationals failed to support their starter again... Tanner Roark snapped a six-start winless streak with a six-inning, 84-pitch outing against Tampa Bay last week in Washington, D.C., holding Rays’ hitters to six hits, a walk, and two earned runs in an 11-2 win. “I stay optimistic. I’m not going to let it get to me. I’m just going to pitch my game, and go out there every time I go out there and give it all I can...” - Tanner Roark on lack of run support “Two-seamer was really moving,” Roark said...

Bryce Harper and His Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day...

Anonymous quotes from an NL executive, two HBPs against the Yankees. It was not a great 48 hours for Nationals’ slugger Bryce Harper... FRSBaseball’s Robert Murray wrote Monday about three texts he received from an unnamed NL executive who shared his thoughts on 25-year-old Washington Nationals’ slugger Bryce Harper’s value as the 2010 No. 1 overall pick gets closer to becoming a free agent at the end of the 2018 campaign. In response to an article in which Murray asked if Harper is overrated, the executive said he thought Harper is, in fact, “... simply overrated.” “The...
