Red Sox 5, Orioles 1: Chris Sale dominates again

Red Sox 5, Orioles 1: Chris Sale dominates again

And Mookie and JDM go deep It’s a sweep for Boston in Baltimore, giving the team a perfect start three games into a ten-game road trip. This was the easiest leg of the trip, of course, but they got the job done even if it wasn’t as dominant as it could have been. This one was mostly dominant, though. Chris Sale was outstanding yet again, allowing just one run for the second straight outing. He also got a little spicy with the umpire, which was entertaining. The offense did more than enough to win, scoring five runs thanks in part to a couple of solo homers from Mookie Betts and J.D....

Red Sox at Orioles lineup: Looking for a super nice Charm City sweep

The rain may put a damper on game 69. The Red Sox (46-22) look to sweep the Orioles (19-47) behind Chris Sale (5-4. 2.83 ERA) as they wrap up a three-game series in Baltimore this afternoon, weather permitting (3:05 p.m., NESN, MLBN out-of-market). About today’s game: The nicest game of the year sees Sale squaring off against righty Yefry Ramirez (NR), who will be making his Major League debut. Even with Sale struggling a little bit, we can safely say the Sox have the advantage. Mookie Betts is back atop the lineup, but Mitch Moreland gets a day off, with hot-hitting Brock Holt playing...

The Yefry Era to begin Wednesday in Baltimore — and in MLB history

After losing their sixth straight Tuesday in another all-around, head-shaking effort, the Orioles only chance of not being swept by the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday afternoon is to beat – or outlast, anyway – stud lefty Chris Sale. And they’ll have to do it with a guy who has never thrown a big league […]

BALTIMORE — When it comes to the All-Star vote, nobody is more popular than Mookie Betts.Major League Baseball released its first round of results from the fan vote for this year’s All-Star Game, to be played July 17 in Washington, and the multi-talented Red Sox right fielder received 748,872 votes, more than any other player in the majors.“I mean, that’s pretty cool, obviously,” said Betts, who was not in the Red Sox’ lineup last night against the Orioles. “But you know, making the All-Star team is definitely a blessing. Andrew Benintendi, Rafael Devers hit home runs as Red Sox hold off Orioles

BALTIMORE — Andrew Benintendi and Rafael Devers hit home runs last night to lead the Red Sox to a 6-4 win over the Baltimore Orioles. The last-place O’s don’t typically offer much of a fight at the plate, but no wins are free and the Sox (46-22) needed this one to keep pace with the New York Yankees, who just won’t stop winning. The Yanks picked up a 3-0 win over the Washington Nationals last night and are second to only the Sox with 43 wins. And at 43-19 they’re the only team that has yet to lose 20 games. The Sox shouldn’t be losing too many if they can keep their budding...

Forget about another uninspired loss, biggest thing Tuesday is Britton pitched

There really was only one important thing that happened for the Orioles on Tuesday night in their 6-4, lackluster loss to the Boston Red Sox, their sixth straight defeat and 47th of the season. Zach Britton pitched. He didn’t pitch well, mind you. His adrenaline was rushing to such an extent that he couldn’t throw […]

Red Sox 6, Orioles 4: Devers and Benintendi homers lead Sox to victory

Red Sox 6, Orioles 4: Devers and Benintendi homers lead Sox to victory

And Eduardo Rodriguez was....fine. The Red Sox have won two in a row and clinched a series victory, though it never seemed easy. On offense, they got themselves a relatively early lead and added enough to it that most of the contest was spent with a somewhat comfortable lead. The pitching, meanwhile, did a good job of limiting the damage, though there wasn’t a smooth inning. Eduardo Rodriguez gave up a whole lot of baserunners and wasn’t as efficient as one would hope. Still, the results were good even if it left you yearning for more. The bullpen pitched similarly, but they (mostly)...
