NEW YORK (AP) - Jacob deGrom came out dealing once again, striking out 11 and winning his sixth straight start as the New York Mets began what could be a last-chance homestand by routing the Colorado Rockies 14-2 Friday night. Michael Conforto and T.J. Rivera homered, Yoenis Cespedes got four ...

Rockies annihilated by Mets 14-2

A game where nothing at all went right. Tonight both the Colorado Rockies and the New York Mets were supposed to return from the All-Star break, but only one team showed up to the park. The Rockies’ best starter had one of his worst ever starts, the “relief” pitching provided anything but, the offense was toothless once again, and they were humiliated 14-2. Things actually started off well enough. The Rockies got to deGrom in the first inning in what was their only meaningful threat of the game. Charlie Blackmon led off with a single, and he went to third on a throwing error on...

Final Score: Mets 14, Rockies 2-Rocking the Rockies

Final Score: Mets 14, Rockies 2-Rocking the Rockies

The offense exploded against Colorado’s ace. The Rockies’ are an outstanding offensive team, but it was the Mets who put on an offensive display in their 14-2 win to open the second half. T.J. Rivera, Yoenis Cespedes, and Michael Conforto were the standouts in an all-around productive day. Rivera hit his fifth home run of the year to go along with a two-run double. Cespedes, who was badly slumping heading into the break, looked much better at the plate and picked up four hits. He got a big rally started in the third when he hustled for a double to start the inning. Conforto, fresh off...

The Mets can gain some Wild Card ground in their first second-half series

The Mets can gain some Wild Card ground in their first second-half series

The Rockies have been stumbling since late June. The Mets probably stand a better chance of winning the National League East than the Wild Card right now. Even though the team is 12 games back of Washington in the East and “only” 10.5 behind Colorado in the Wild Card standings, there are currently five teams between New York and the Rockies, and they’re all playing for just one spot. Still, it wouldn’t hurt the Mets if they took this series from Colorado to start the second half of the season. On second though, it could hurt in the long run if a winning streak gives the front office...

Rockies vs. Mets preview: Probable pitchers, game times, and analysis

What you need to know about the Rockies and Mets series The Colorado Rockies (52-39, 3rd in the NL West) will come out of the All-Star break with a trip to Citi Field and the New York Mets (39-47, 4th in the NL East). The Mets have had a hard year thus far and they have been talked about as sellers in this year’s trade market. However, because of the overwhelming amount of injuries they’ve suffered, they’ll probably want to hoard many of their assets and start from scratch in 2018, hoping to stay healthy. There is a lot of talent on this roster even if it hasn’t shown up this...
