Rays 4 Tigers 2: TBD for CYA!

The Rays won today thanks to another great pitching performance by TBD, and two home-runs, one of the three-run variety. Hunter Wood became the most recent Rays reliever to start a game, and while he did allow two hits, he got the Rays through the first. He gave up 2 runs, with Mikie Mahtook singling and James McCann hitting the two-run homer, and for a while those looked like they could be the...

Rays 4, Tigers 2: Detroit McCann’t take advantage of a single home run

At least no one yelled “I got it!” This hasn’t been a kind series to the Tigers, who were swept by the Rays today to close the three-game set. The Tigers just seem to have been incapable of holding onto a lead at all, or turning one into a win. In today’s game Jordan Zimmermann had a serviceable (if heavily hit) outing, he just forgot to pay off the home run gods ahead of time. Home runs, in fact, were the order of the day for both teams. Zimmermann’s final line for the day was 6.2 IP, 11 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 5 K, 2 HR on 105 pitches. Three of the Rays runs came off a C.J. Cron...

The Rays go the series sweep with Hunter Wood starting his first career game Starting Pitchers Jordan Zimmermann Scouting Report Zimmermann have quietly been very good for the Tigers during the 2018 season. He had a month long stay on the disabled list. He made his return on June 16th and has made four starts since returning. He has allowed two runs over this last three starts, with his last outing coming on the 6th against Rangers where he allowed a run on six hits over eight innings pitched. They defeated the Detroit Tigers, 5-2, Wilson Ramos provided the big blow, a three run home run in the third inning, while the Rays pitching staff did their part on a bullpen day, holding Detroit scoreless over the first eight innings, before Adam Kolarek surrendered two runs in the 9th. Game 95 Preview: Tigers at Rays

The Tigers finish off a long stretch of games with a Wednesday matinee against the Rays. For most players, the All-Star break is a necessary break. The MLB season is a real grind — more on that later — and a four day reprieve is a huge benefit for players who are both mentally and physically exhausted. The select few that have to participate in All-Star festivities don’t get the same break, but most embrace the honor and make the most of their time in the limelight. Then there are players like Jordan Zimmermann, who are hitting their stride just as we reach a long break in action....

Rays 5, Tigers 0: Boyd bad again

Rays 5, Tigers 0: Boyd bad again

A bad inning did Boyd in yet again in his eighth loss of the year. Another day, another bad inning for Matthew Boyd, another loss for the Detroit Tigers. That was the theme tonight in Tampa for the Tigers as they fell to the Rays 5-2, and to 40-54 on the season. Things started really well for Boyd. He set down the first seven Rays batters in a row, and gave hope he might be kicking his recent slump to the curb. Sadly, it turned out that was not the case. Carlos Gomez reached base on a walk in the bottom of the third, and then a series of lazy fielding mistakes would allow two runs to...

Rays 5, Tigers 2: Bullpen Day is an ASG Snub

Also, Wilson Ramos is a Golden God. With dreams of open-air stadiums and translucent roofs in their heads, the 2018 Tampa Bay Rays settled into the cozy confines of Tropicana Field to take the series from the Detroit Tigers: a team none of us really have anything against, but one we want to see fail today. The third inning accounted for all of the offense for the Rays, but what an inning it was. Gomez walked, and stole second to sit in scoring position. Adames then hit a chopped to shortstop, but a hustling Gomez managed to slide safely into home for the Rays’ first run. Kevin Kiermaier...
