Lots of teams missed out on drafting Mike Trout in 2009. The New York Mets did so by going after a big name free agent. Imagine Mike Trout playing for the New York Mets. It’s a dream come true for any MLB team. Somewhere, in a parallel dimension, he’s at Citi Field right now smashing […] New York Mets: How they missed out on drafting Mike Trout - Rising Apple - Rising Apple - A New York Mets Blog Fan Site - News, Blogs, Opinion and More

Cabrera’s pinch-hit home run, Rosario’s two home runs lead Syndergaard, Mets to victory

Cabrera’s pinch-hit home run, Rosario’s two home runs lead Syndergaard, Mets to victory

The Mets completed their first home three-game sweep since September 2016. After enduring a gloomy week of gray, drizzly games, Sunday afternoon was finally a beautiful day for baseball. And the Mets entered the day with bright prospects for a sweep, as the Diamondbacks pushed back Zack Greinke for extra rest and called up Clay Buchholz to make his first start of the year against Noah Syndergaard. Buchholz pitched well, carrying a 1-0 lead into the bottom of the sixth, but the Mets struck quickly with three home runs in the sixth and seventh to seize the lead and take the game. ...

Mets of the Future: Ryder Ryan riding high in Single-A this season

New York Mets pitching prospect Ryder Ryan is performing well in the bullpen this season. Does he have a future at Citi Field? Ryder Ryan, a recently turned 23-year-old 30th […] Mets of the Future: Ryder Ryan riding high in Single-A this season - Rising Apple - Rising Apple - A New York Mets Blog Fan Site - News, Blogs, Opinion and More

New York Mets will never trade Jacob deGrom to the Yankees

If the New York Mets decide to tear it all down, they could trade Jacob deGrom. The one team they won’t deal him to are the New York Yankees. Jacob deGrom is arguably the most valuable player on the New York Mets roster. As a true ace, he’s the rotation’s leader and one guy they […] New York Mets will never trade Jacob deGrom to the Yankees - Rising Apple - Rising Apple - A New York Mets Blog Fan Site - News, Blogs, Opinion and More

Mets call up Chris Flexen and Tomás Nido

The team also optioned Buddy Baumann to Triple-A and designated Jose Lobaton for assignment The New York Mets made multiple roster moves today, calling up pitcher Chris Flexen and catcher Tomas Nido to take the place of pitcher Buddy Baumann and catcher Jose Lobaton. Baumann will be optioned back down to Triple-A Las Vegas after his second trip to the majors where he appeared in only one game. He went only two innings and gave up three earned runs as the Mets fell to the Padres 12-1. Lobaton had a much larger role with the club, playing in 18 games and hitting just .152 over 46 at-bats....

Christian Colon, Ezequiel Carrera sign Minor League deals

Christian Colon, Ezequiel Carrera sign Minor League deals

Both will report to Triple-A Las Vegas. The New York Mets signed Christian Colon and Ezequiel Carrera to minor league deals and have assigned both of them to Triple-A Las Vegas. Colon was the 2010 fourth overall pick and has had some brief stints in the majors, but he has struggled to find the consistent success that was expected of him coming out of the draft. Colon made his major league Debut with the Kansas City Royals in 2014 and remained in the organization until he was DFA’d in May of 2017. He was acquired off waivers by the Miami Marlins and spent a little over a month with them...

Mets have no shot at acquiring a superstar at this year’s trade deadline

A weak farm system and plenty of competition fighting against them, the New York Mets have no shot at acquiring a superstar at this year’s trade deadline. The New York Mets need to face the facts. It's not yet time for Mets to consider anything drastic

The Mets should not trade Jacob deGrom and/or Noah Syndergaard this season. I'm not against trading anyone, but to deal these two men now in a limited market would be foolish.

Snake Bytes 5/21: Woes

The Arizona Diamondbacks have gone from one extreme to the other in a span of two months. Going to forgo individual commentary in this one as game time is around the corner... Mets 5, Diamondbacks 4 [D’backs.com] Slumping D-backs lose late lead, fall to Mets - None of the nine losses the D-backs have experienced over the past 10 games have been pleasant, but Saturday night’s 5-4 defeat at the hands at the Mets at Citi Field was particularly bad because of how it transpired. The offense had shown signs of life in building a 4-2 lead through seven innings, and with setup man Archie...

Matt Wisler to start Friday’s game against Marlins, Max Fried oddly demoted

Matt Wisler to start Friday’s game against Marlins, Max Fried oddly demoted

Your guess is as good as mine. Matt Wisler will start Friday night’s game against the Marlins after being recalled from Gwinnett. Max Fried, who was called up from Gwinnett on Thursday in order to start in place of injured Mike Soroka before the game was eventually postponed due to rain, was sent back down. Your guess is as good as mine. Sean Newcomb was originally scheduled to start tonight’s game, but it appears he will now pitch with an extra day’s rest on Saturday. This will be Wisler’s third start of the year for Atlanta. His first one against the Mets was encouraging (7...
