Another bad loss for the Blue Jays

Angels 8 Blue Jays 1 I felt a little divorced from that game, Maybe because we were down early. Maybe because the Facebook video isn’t great. I turned off the sound and listened to Wagner and Wilner (I very much enjoy them on the radio) Marco Estrada wasn’t good. 4.1 innings, 7 hits (including a Mike Trout homer that barely made it out of the park, it bounced off the top of the wall and over), 4 earned, 2 walks and 1 strikeout. Marco seemed to fall behind every batter, not a recipe for success. Offensively, we couldn’t do a thing against Nick Tropeano. He went 7.1 (and I was...

Angels bats come alive once again as they put 8-1 Nitro-boosted hurtin’ on the Blue Jays

That’s two in a row. Funny what a little offense, mixed with a great starting pitching effort, can do for a club. Angels 8 Blue Jays 1 Today’s day game out in Toronto was broadcast on Facebook, so I wont hold it against you if you didn’t watch. If you did, then the gamble of going on Facebook...

Toronto Blue Jays: Marco Estrada’s frustrated over slump

As the Toronto Blue Jays struggle to find consistency in the month of May, Marco Estrada didn’t hold back on his feelings about the recent slump. It should come as no surprise that frustration has affected members of the Toronto Blue Jays in what has been a disappointing month of May. On Monday, Steve Buffery […] Toronto Blue Jays: Marco Estrada’s frustrated over slump - Tip of the Tower - Tip of the Tower - A Toronto Sports Site - Maple Leafs, Blue Jays, Raptors, Toronto FC, Raptors and Argonauts

Blue Jays: Jose Bautista signs one-year deal with Mets

In a very fast sequence of events, the New York have signed recently released, former Blue Jay Jose Bautista to a one-year major league deal earlier this afternoon. The rumors are true. Jose Bautista is a Met. Boy, that was fast. As our own Clayton Richer mentioned less than 24 hours ago, the Mets were […] Blue Jays: Jose Bautista signs one-year deal with Mets - Jays Journal - Jays Journal - A Toronto Blue Jays Fan Site - News, Blogs, Opinion and More

Morales homers and Happ was great, Blue Jays win

Angels 3 Blue Jays 5 Another terrific start from J.A. Happ. 7 innings, just 3 hits, 3 walks, 5 strikeouts and 2 earned. It was kind of unfortunate that 2 of those hits, and 1 of the walk were grouped together in the 4th inning (and even that inning would have gone better if Josh Donaldson had gone for the double play instead of trying to tag the runner going past him, he still got an out but we might have had 2). Happ didn’t have the huge strikeout numbers he was getting, earlier in the season, but he was pretty economical with his pitches, finishing 7 innings at 99 pitches. Ryan Tepera...

Blue Jays Roster Moves: Devon Travis Up

Blue Jays Roster Moves: Devon Travis Up

The Toronto Blue Jays announced today that Devon Travis has been recalled from Buffalo and will be active for tonight’s game. Travis was optioned to Buffalo on April 29th, batting just .148/.212/.246 in 66 plate appearances at the time. His production in Buffalo was only marginally better, batting .210/.234/.274 over 64 plate appearances. However, Travis does leave AAA on an 8 game hit streak. Travis was quick to praise the Buffalo Bison’s hitting coach Corey Hart, stating in a recent interview: “As a hitting coach in professional baseball, a huge key is understanding your players and...

Poll Time: Do you approve of the job Mark Shapiro and Ross Atkins are doing?

Poll Time: Do you approve of the job Mark Shapiro and Ross Atkins are doing?

We haven’t done one of these in a while, and it’s likely not fair to do it in the middle (hopefully closer to the end) of a Blue Jays slump, but I thought we’d do it anyway. I’ll give my couple of complaints: The thing that will always drive me nuts about baseball front offices is indecision. The Blue Jays front office....right now they seem to be running a master class in indecision. For shortstop, after the Diaz injury the Jays: Used Lourdes Gurriel (he was close by, playing second after they shipped out Travis). Gurriel, had a bad day, out he goes, up comes Richard Urena...

Blue Jays, Kendrys Morales, and the only trade fit I can find

It’s almost universally agreed that Kendrys Morales and his contract are not tradable, but I think I may have found a reasonable solution. As the Blue Jays continue their tough stretch of games lately, the winds of change are starting to blow, at least according to fans wanting to see the ship get righted in […] Blue Jays, Kendrys Morales, and the only trade fit I can find - Jays Journal - Jays Journal - A Toronto Blue Jays Fan Site - News, Blogs, Opinion and More

2018 Draft Preview: Reviewing the 2017 Draft

2018 Draft Preview: Reviewing the 2017 Draft

The 2017 draft was the first for the Blue Jays under new scouting director Steve Sanders, continuing the transition fully to the Mark Shapiro/Ross Atkins era. With the draftees less than one year into their pro careers, it’s really too early to be doing much in the way of evaluating the draft class, even despite the majority being collegians and having played upwards of four months in pro ball with the attendant data. Nonetheless, I’ve included a summary table below as for the other drafts reviewed; after that is a brief review of whose prospect stock is significantly up and down since...

Game #48 Preview: Richards vs Happ

Angels (26-21) vs Blue Jays (22-25) The Blue Jays welcome Mike Trout and Angels into town for a 3 game series, starting tonight at 7:07 ET. Blue Jays’ Starter J.A. Happ starts game 1 for the Jays. Through his first 9 starts, Happ is 5-3 with a 4.15 ERA. After a pair of rough outings, Happ rebounded in his last start against the Mets, throwing 7 shutout innings allowing 2 hits while striking out 10. It was the third time this season that Happ has struck out at least 9 batters while walking none. Happ’s ability to generate strikeouts this season has been impressive. His 11.42 K/9 is 6th...

Blue Jays face an important nine-game stretch in May

The Toronto Blue Jays were embarrassed by the Oakland Athletics this weekend at the Rogers Centre—there is no point in sugar-coating it. However, they have an excellent opportunity to prove that they belong in the playoff conversation over the next nine games. The Blue Jays are about to enter a period of three, three-game series […] Blue Jays face an important nine-game stretch in May - Jays Journal - Jays Journal - A Toronto Blue Jays Fan Site - News, Blogs, Opinion and More

Man colds, Angels, complacency and ninja turtles The Blue Jays make me sick...I mean who wouldn’t feel ill following our sweep by the A’s? Or it could be that as we head into winter down here in New Zealand, the dropping temperatures have given rise to my severe man cold. (* This post is sponsored by a wide variety of over the counter medications and some 12 year old scotch). Man colds are VERY serious business and i could die at any moment! This is proof. Blue Jays: Comparing Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to other teen call-ups

As the great debate continues about whether to promote Vladimir Guerrero Jr, let’s take a look at others who have debuted as teenagers, and how they fared.
