Player Ratings: San Jose 2-0 RSL

Player Ratings: San Jose 2-0 RSL

RSL started great but slowed down as time went on. Nick Rimando - 5 Rimando had a good save or two and had good positioning for most of the night, but was a tad out of position on the second San Jose goal. Danilo Acosta - 6 Acosta won the ball for RSL a handful of times and looked like he was the much better player in his match ups at times. Aaron Maund - 4 Maund got beat by speedier players and got exposed for it a few times. One of those times led to a goal. Justen Glad - 6.5 Glad met every challenge head on and was RSL’s best player on the night. Chris Wingert - 5 Wingert played...

Player Ratings: RSL 1:0 Minnesota

Player Ratings: RSL 1:0 Minnesota

Everyone stepped up at home to get a much-needed win. Nick Rimando - 5 Rimando did not have a bad game. He simply didn’to do much. One save to be exact. Danilo Acosta - 6.5 Acosta had a pretty quiet game, but in a good way. He controlled his side of the field and looked very confident. Aaron Maund - 6 Maund made some pretty timely steps and won some aerial battles. It was clearly one of his better showings of the year. Justen Glad - 7.5 Glad had a fantastic return to RSL in his first game for the club in 2017. His presence gave the back line that extra bit of stability they’d been...

Player Ratings: Dallas 6-2 RSL

Player Ratings: Dallas 6-2 RSL

The match was historically bad for RSL. Matt Van Oekel - 5 None of the goals were his fault. None. Tony Beltran - 4 Beltran was part of the horrible defensive shape and it’s hard to explain exactly why that was the case. Chris Schuler - 3 Schuler got lost a few times and was sucked in to the mindset around him which led to frustration and getting exploited. Aaron Maund - 2 The lowest score I can recall giving to any player, and Maund earned it. He was at least in part or directly responsible for at least four if not all five Dallas goals. I would be shocked if he is still with RSL...

Why RSL couldn’t fill their bench against FC Dallas

Why RSL couldn’t fill their bench against FC Dallas

With 12 absences, RSL just couldn’t fill a seven-man bench. Real Salt Lake was unable to fill their bench for tonight’s match on the road against FC Dallas, with only five players meeting the call for substitutes. If that doesn’t tell you a lot about the state of things for RSL, then perhaps looking at the causes for absences would be efficacious. Starting lineup Matt VanOekel; Chris Wingert, Aaron Maund, Chris Schuler; Tony Beltran; Omar Holness, Kyle Beckerman, Luke Mulholland, Joao Plata; Albert Rusnák; Yura Movsisyan Substitutes: Lalo Fernandez, Justin Schmidt, Reagan Dunk, Jose...

Player Ratings: Houston 5-1 RSL

Player Ratings: Houston 5-1 RSL

A horrible start to the match put things out of reach. Matt Van Oekel - 5 Van Oekel came up big a few times, but nobody could come up big enough to make up for RSL’s defensive mistakes. Tony Beltran - 4 Beltran didn’t have quite the same match as he had against Philly. He got beat a couple times when Houston was in the attack and unfortunately was partially responsible for a couple of their goals. Chris Schuler - 4.5 Schuler did some things well, but seemed to make some unwise decisions leaving Aaron Maund - 4.5 Maund was probably the best player on RSL’s back line on the night, but...
