Fredy Montero named Europa League Player of the Week

Playing time has been a bit hard to come by for Fredy Montero this season, and the bulk of it has come during Sporting CP's Europa League campaign. One such opportunity came on Thursday and the former Seattle Sounders Designated Player made of the most of it, scoring a goal and picking up two assists to lead Sporting CP to a 4-2 win on the road against Lokomotiv Moscow. You can watch the highlights here: The performance was strong enough to win the Europa League's Player of the Week. Major Link Soccer: Black Friday Special Edition

This Major Link Soccer post is available for 35% off for the first 50 viewers. Makes a great holiday gift. David Beckham is cruising Black Friday sales for a soccer stadium deal. Seattle Sean Ugo Okoli was one of Seattle Sounders FC's first home grown signings, but it wasn't long before he was off to greener (less green?) pastures in search of more playing time. He didn't exactly find that with New England Revolution, however he is off to train withPortugal's Sporting CP for a few weeks, and he's pretty excited. Who knows, while he's there he might pick up some of Fredy Montero's goal...

Fredy Montero scores first goal in about a month

It has been an uneven start to the season for Fredy Montero, as he's found playing time harder to come by and most of his minutes have come in Europa League action. Well, Montero started on Thursday in Sporting CP's group stage match against Lokomotiv Moscow and scored his third goal of the tournament. Montero's last goal in any match was on Oct. 22. Nothing too special there, but Montero made a good run and was rewarded for following the deflected cross. The goal also tied the score 1-1.

Which player most contributed to the attack in 2015? Previous winners are not just forwards as the award is eligible to any player that scores goals or collects assists. This year's cutoff will be for any player with seven or more goals or assists. Previous winners were Fredy Montero (09, 10, 12), Mauro Rosales (11), Eddie Johnson (13) and Obafemi Martins (14). It's a narrow field with only one surprising entrant. Clint Dempsey - Forward 12 goals, 10 assists in all competitions Obafemi Martins - Forward 16 goals, 6 assists in all competitions Lamar Neagle - Midfielder/Forward 7 goals, 2...

Sounders insider predicts 'very different roster' in 2016

Taylor Graham gave some strong hints that some significant change could be in the offing. The last time the Seattle Sounders went out of the playoffs this year was 2013. Granted that was in far more spectacular fashion -- losing a pair of games and being thoroughly outclassed by their biggest rivals -- but it precluded the most dramatic rebuilding in the club's history. Fredy Montero, Eddie Johnson, Mauro Rosales, Michael Gspurning and Jhon Kennedy Hurtado were among those shipped away as the Sounders turned over more than a third of their roster. The dust has barely started to settle on...
