Photo Essay: Toronto FC again thwarted by Seattle Sounders

Photos by Tagwa Moyo (@Shuttersworth on Instagram) Toronto FC have already lost more games at home this year than they did all of last season after falling 2-1 to the Seattle Sounders at BMO Field last night. Goals from Will Bruin and Handwalla Bwana gave the win to the Sounders, who came into the game without a number of their regular starters. Jonathan Osorio scored the lone goal for Toronto FC who are still looking to put together back to back wins for the first time this season. Here are the best photos from the match taken by Waking the Red’s photographer Tagwa Moyo.

Three takeaways from the Seattle Sounders’ first road win of the season

The Seattle Sounders managed their second win of the season Wednesday on the road at BMO Field in Toronto, despite a conservative roster and defensive-minded formation. Rookie midfielder Handwalla Bwana scored the game-winner in the 54th minute to help Seattle secure its first win in Toronto in three years. Here are three takeaways from the […] The post Three takeaways from the Seattle Sounders’ first road win of the season appeared first on Pro Soccer USA.

‘It’s inexplicable’: We need to talk about VAR

‘It’s inexplicable’: We need to talk about VAR

It’s a good thing for the game, guys. But it needs to be fixed. If you’re not already aware, Greg Vanney began his post-match press conference on Wednesday by asking reporters to gather round and look at a still on his phone, which was a screenshot of Handwalla Bwana’s game-winning goal for the Seattle Sounders. The picture he showed us looked a lot like this: “You can tell me what VAR does,” he suggested to the media. “You can have your own opinion, I’m not gonna share mine.” Oh, but share his opinion he did. I think, in fairness to Vanney, because his...

Greg Vanney showed reporters his phone to complain about Handwalla Bwana’s goal

Vanney thought it was offside. Complaining about how and when VAR is used has become a favorite past time of MLS coaches. Never before, though, has one broken out his phone to show reporters a photo during a postgame press conference. Well, not until Toronto FC head coach Greg Vanney did it on Wednesday following a 2-1 loss to the Seattle Sounders. That phone on the podium on in front of Vanney at his post-game presser? That’s a screenshot of Seattle’s second goal. Vanney at a loss at the fact that it wasn’t called back by VAR for offside. #TFCLive pic.twitter.com/yukt1GKYBC—...

Sounders at Toronto FC, recap: Seattle rides bear to victory

Sounders at Toronto FC, recap: Seattle rides bear to victory

Bruin and Bwana score in 2-1 win. No DPs? No problem. Seattle Sounders FC chose to rest Clint Dempsey and Osvaldo Alonso, while their third DP Nicolas Lodeiro was unavailable due to injury. In middle of a dire start to 2018 and on the road against the Toronto FC team that thumped the Sounders in last year’s MLS Cup, the Rave Green rolled out a 5-4-1, played bunker-counter soccer and used subs to shift the tactics but not the formation. Not only did they win 2-1, they had fun doing it. Behind goals from Will Bruin and Handwalla Bwana, the Sounders moved out of the bottom spot in the West...

Handwalla Bwana fires Seattle Sounders to unlikely win over Toronto FC

From the start, it was not a typical Seattle Sounders lineup. By the end, it was barely recognizable, with Stefan Frei, Chad Marshall and Cristian Roldan attempting to hold things together through the spine of the team and an assortment of pieces around them. Against all odds, this unusual group went where the full-strength Sounders […] The post Handwalla Bwana fires Seattle Sounders to unlikely win over Toronto FC appeared first on Pro Soccer USA.
