Joao Plata gets one back for RSL in the 62nd

Right after he made an excellent save to deny Movsisyan, Stefan Frei produced a bit of a howler when he rolled the ball in front of the box and right to Movsisyan. After a few failed tackles and some flapping by Frei, the RSL forward passed it to Joao Plata, who was able to fire it in before Frei or the defenders could get back in proper position.

Toronto FC vs. Real Salt Lake: Time, TV schedule, live stream

Real Salt Lake faces a simmering Toronto FC tonight — a side that beat their last two opponents by three goals — and you’d be forgiven if you were a bit worried. “Sebastian Giovinco,” you’re probably saying over and over in your head. I don’t blame you. But after goals last match from Joao Plata and Javier Morales that were straight off the top shelf, we think maybe this one could turn into a battle of goals. How to watch Where: BMO Field; Toronto, Canada When: 5 p.m. Mountain Daylight, 7 p.m. Eastern Local TV: KMYU (2.2 over-the-air; 12 satellite; 643 Comcast HD) Live stream:...

Goal Breakdown: Long pass sees Plata unleashed for team goal

Real Salt Lake’s 2-1 win over Philadelphia Union felt explosive in plenty of ways, and the first goal of the match — the first for Joao Plata in an age, too — was the perfect way to push the team forward. It was a team goal in every sense of the word, but by the same token, it was also one of the most spectacular, magnificent goals you’ll see all week. (We’re lucky enough to have had two of those in this match.) Let’s talk about how it came about. Jamison Olave sends a long ball over the top. It isn’t completed, but that’s actually not particularly important....

Player rating survey: Real Salt Lake at Philadelphia Union July 31st, 2016

It's your turn to rate the players after they fell to Real Salt Lake 2-1 on a muggy Sunday night. This time the first half was promising. The Union went into the locker room up 1-0 on a Roland Alberg penalty but could not hold the lead in the 2nd half as a pair of impressive strikes sank the defense which continues to struggle. The Union had the best of possession and shot attempts but Salt Lake and Nick Rimando were up to the task. Goals by Joao Plata and Javier Morales were the difference in quality in this match. So how did the Union players individually perform against Real Salt Lake?...

RSL redeem themselves and win 2-1 in Philly.

RSL jumped out of the gate with determination and fury ready to be the aggressor away from home. Around the 15th minute Olmes Garcia had a nice cut and then a through ball to find Joao Plata. Plata got his toe on the perfectly weighted ball , but it ended up hitting the post and Philadelphia got it out of the dangerous area. Not long after, both sides got in a shoving match after Plata suffered an unnecessary plowing after the ref blew the whistle. The first half never found much of a rhythm with both teams refusing to give much space, but RSL did squander a chance or two. In the 42nd,...

WATCH: Plata, Morales put RSL up 2-1 on Philadelphia Union

Real Salt Lake may not be able to keep a clean sheet in MLS, but tonight’s match against Philadelphia Union has featured at least one notable positive: Joao Plata scored a goal. It was the wizard’s (timely, no?) first goal in two months, and it was a spectacular one, too. It’s a beautiful little curler from the edge of the box led on by arguably one of Real Salt Lake’s best players of the last two months, Demar Phillips. WHAT A STRIKE! Plata equalizes! 1-1!!! pic.twitter.com/0Td6U8EkEI— Total MLS (@TotalMLS) August 1, 2016 ¿Qué tal esta de Joao Plata? #PHIvNY...
