Revolution, Dynamo Kick Off 2017 Desert Diamond Cup in Tucson

Revolution, Dynamo Kick Off 2017 Desert Diamond Cup in Tucson

The Revs title defense begins tonight. Tonight marks the beginning of the end for the Revolution, who will conclude the preseason by kicking off the FC Tucson Desert Diamond Cup against the Houston Dynamo. The Revs have enjoyed a productive preseason thus far, going unbeaten in friendlies against Minnesota United, the New York Red Bulls and Sporting KC. Kei Kamara has led the way for the navy and red, logging a goal in all three matches. Despite this run of play, Kamara will only play a 45-minute shift tonight, as Head Coach Jay Heaps plans to field a fresh lineup for the second half of...

10 Thoughts about the Revolution’s preseason so far

10 Thoughts about the Revolution’s preseason so far

I want to see Kelyn Rowe play as a number 10 and other thoughts from leg one of preseason. The New England Revolution are heading back to Arizona for leg two of preseason. Here are ten thoughts about what we’ve seen so far: Kei Kamara is red hot and that’s a good thing. Having only scored seven goals after his mid-season arrival to the Revs, it’s safe to say that Kamara’s 2016 was underwhelming. The striker appears to be ready to rectify that, as he’s already scored three goals in as many preseason games. A healthy and hungry Kamara is sure to cause defenders headaches. Don’t...

Revs 2, SKC 1 - Kamara, J. Smith Score in Preseason Victory

Revs 2, SKC 1 - Kamara, J. Smith Score in Preseason Victory

Kei Kamara can’t stop scoring and rookie Joshua Smith made an impact in the Revs final preseason game before the Desert Diamond Cup. The New England Revolution concluded the first half of their annual Arizona preseason camp unbeaten after a 2-1 victory over Sporting Kansas City earlier today. Jay Heaps trotted out a strong starting lineup that featured a few wrinkles to accommodate missing or unavailable players like Juan Agudelo, who returned to Boston after international duty, and Xavier Kouassi and Benjamin Angoua who have yet to see preseason game minutes while recovering from...

Revolution v. Red Bulls: Three thoughts

Revolution v. Red Bulls: Three thoughts

I want to see Tristan Bowen’s overhead kick and two more thoughts. The New England Revolution collected their first preseason win on Friday when they downed the New York Red Bulls 2-0. Kei Kamara opened the scoring in the 25th minute by nodding in a Lee Nguyen corner kick while rookie Brian Wright doubled the lead in the second half. The game wasn’t streamed but we have three thoughts regardless. It’s good to see Antonio Delemea earn his first shutout with his new club. For the second straight game, Delemea played 45 minutes at centerback. After lining up next to Je-Vaughn Watson...

Revolution v. Minnesota: Three thoughts

Revolution v. Minnesota: Three thoughts

Kei Kamara scored a Kei Kamara goal and two more thoughts. The New England Revolution played their first game of 2017 on Tuesday when they tied Minnesota United 1-1. Eugene Starikov struck in the 39th minute, giving the MLS newcomers a lead until Kei Kamara leveled the score in the 78th minute. There wasn’t a stream for the game, but that won’t stop me from having three thoughts. The rookie was energetic. It didn’t take long for Brian Wright to have an impact, as the University of Vermont product drew a penalty in the 12th minute. Teal Bunbury stepped up to the spot, but had his...

Revolution draw with Minnesota in first preseason game of 2017, Delamea and Wright impress

Revolution draw with Minnesota in first preseason game of 2017, Delamea and Wright impress

Pegged against one of MLS’s two expansion teams, New England split the spoils. With preseason still in its early days, it’s hard to get a read on how the New England Revolution will fare throughout the 2017 MLS season. But on Tuesday morning in Casa Grande, Arizona, the Revs went through their paces, drawing, 1-1, with Minnesota United FC. The scoring began in the 39th minute, when Eugene Starikov, a trialist for the expansion side, bundled home past goalkeeper Matt Turner. New England answered back, though, in the 78th minute through striker Kei Kamara, who nodded home a cross from...

TheNew England Revolution signedBenjamin Angoua on loan from Ligue 1 clubGuingamp on Friday, the MLS teams second center-back acquisition in three days. The Revs addedAngoua on loan until the end of the season, when they will have the option to buy him permanently. Revs open camp with renewed optimism

Revs open camp with renewed optimism

FOXBORO — After the frustrations of missing out on the postseason last year, the Revolution opened training camp yesterday with a clean slate and a renewed sense of optimism.“It’s a new season,” forward Kei Kamara said. “Everybody has a chance to win MLS Cup right now. That’s the mindset. If anybody is here and thinking that is not what they want to do, then you’re not in the right job.”
