Depth Struggles to Get in the Lineup for Columbus Crew SC

Should fans blame the failure of some players to succeed with the Black & Gold on lack of an opportunity? When the transfer window opens at the beginning of July, Columbus Crew SC has plenty of options. After trading forward Kei Kamara in May, the Black & Gold have plenty of resources to bring in at least one player and a Designated Player slot available. Recently, head coach and sporting director Gregg Berhalter was asked about how different Crew SC could look in a couple months. "It’s hard to tell," he said, "but I would say we’ll probably look a little bit different." With the money...

Let's help make Jordan Morris the first college soccer player to win an ESPY

ESPY voting has a few soccer moments. Carli Loyd is up for best championship performance for example. Cristiano Ronaldo and Luis Suarez are up for top international male athlete. Sebastian Giovinco is going to win the best MLS player award. Kei Kamara, Laurent Ciman and Luis Robles (that's the Red Bulls keeper) are the others up for the award. Jordan Morris is up for Best Male College Athlete. You know what to do. Sure, he's going against a Heisman Trophy winner, a hoops star, a long jumper and a wrestler, but which of those beat Mexico while in college? Who schooled their...

Crew SC possesses well, sidesteps injury woes to tie fourth-place Montreal, 0-0

With star Federico Higuaín out after hernia surgery, Columbus shifts lineup as MLS play resumes after Copa America Centenario After a 17-day layoff in league play to allow for national team callups for continental tournament play, Columbus Crew SC hosted the Montreal Impact for the second and final time this season. While the draw outcome was the same, the tenor of this match did not resemble the drama of the shot-riddled 4-4 result from May 7th. In fairness, the starting XI each team fielded six weeks ago was also rather different Saturday. Not only was Kei Kamara traded to New England...

Crew has reset since meltdown against Impact

adcelannotate = {"mobilepaywallcategory" : "MOBILE_PREM-SPORTS","nativepaywallcategory" : "NATIVE_PREM-SPORTS"};On May 7, Crew SC played the Montreal Impact in a game marked by an on-field dispute between two of the Crew’s stars. Neither will be on the field tonight when the Impact visits Mapfre Stadium. The Crew blew a 4-1 lead and settled for a 4-4 tie with Montreal last month. As disheartening as that was, even worse was the disagreement between striker Kei Kamara and star midfielder Federico Higuain.

Federico Higuain Out 6-8 Weeks with Sports Hernia, Mohammed Saeid with Broken Vertebrae

The Black & Gold will be without two valuable members of their squad. The blows keep on coming for Columbus Crew SC. The Black & Gold began the season with no wins through the opening five matches. Then came the Kei Kamara fiasco, which resulted in the club trading last year’s leading goal scorer to the New England Revolution. Defender Amro Tarek left the club in early May and rumors are circulating of other unhappy Columbus players. With only three wins on the year Crew SC currently sit on 14 points in 2016, which puts the Black & Gold in ninth place in the Eastern Conference and only...

Report: Midfielder Emil Larsen Wants Away From Columbus Crew SC

Another member of the Black & Gold could be on the outs. It began with center back Amro Tarek, who asked for his released from Columbus Crew SC back in early May. After making just one appearance for the Black & Gold in the opening portion of the Major League Soccer season, the center back was ready to go. A week later, Kei Kamara - who tied for the MLS lead with 22 goals in 2015 - was traded to the New England Revolution after speaking out in regards to teammate Federico Higuain. Could there be a third Crew SC player leaving Columbus in the first half of the 2016 season? If reports from...

Kei Kamara moonlights as a photographer for Copa America

Kei Kamara is pretty talented, don't you know. If this whole soccer thing doesn't work out then Kei Kamara could have a future as a photographer. On Sunday, the New England Revolution striker took to Twitter to announce that he had some exciting news. The simple tweet was accompanied by camera emojis, which turned out to be subtle hints at what was to come. Exciting news today — KEI KAMARA (@keikamara) June 12, 2016 Kamara later revealed that he was going to be roaming the sidelines of Gillette Stadium to photograph the Brazil-Peru game. Crew SC reportedly looking at Argentine striker Lucas Gamba

The team has several open spots with the window approaching Several reports from Argentina are linking Columbus Crew SC to 28 year old Union Santa Fe striker Lucas Gamba. He recently completed his second season for Santa Fe. He has made 39 appearances with seven goals and two assists over his career for the Argentine team. Gamba is known as a pacy striker who, like seemingly all Berhalter targets, can play on the wings as needed. He doesn't appear to be a target striker in the Kei Kamara mold. Gamba is quoted in Argentine media saying that he hasn't heard of anything through his agent after...

Columbus Crew SC vs. Philadelphia Union 2016: Game Time, TV Schedule, Live Stream, Lineup

After a win on Saturday, the Black & Gold look to make it two in a row at the Union. One match remains for Major League Soccer clubs before the league takes a hiatus for the Copa America. Columbus Crew SC end the early portion of the season with a match at the Philadelphia Union, a side that already has a win over the Black & Gold this season. That match, the first home game of the year for Crew SC, saw the Union grab a goal in first half stoppage time and concede again to Chris Pontius mid-second half. Then Columbus forward Kei Kamara pulled one back late, but the Black & Gold could not...

Crossing the Touchline: Philadelphia Union at Columbus Crew SC

It's a quick turnaround for both teams in the last MLS game before the international break. The Black & Gold did its best to throw away another 4-1 lead last Saturday, but Columbus Crew SC held on at the end to defeat Real Salt Lake 4-3. This marked the club's first win in over a month, but extended the team's unbeaten run to four matches. Ola Kamara, who is now the man up top for Columbus after the trade of Kei Kamara, opened his MLS account early in the match and followed it up with two more goals for his first hat trick for Crew SC en route to being named MLS Player of the Week. On...

Three questions with Massive Report

We spoke with Patrick Murphy of Massive Report, SB Nation's Columbus Crew SC blog, about the upcoming match between the Union and Crew. Brotherly Game) Kei Kamara leaving was huge news - can you give a brief synopsis of just what went down? Patrick Murphy, Massive Report) I will try to keep it brief, but this whole thing got so complicated. Let's start at the beginning, Kei Kamara is Kei Kamara. Since he was drafted by Crew SC, he's had his opinions on things and was never afraid to voice them. Some coaches are okay with that and some aren't. Sigi Schmid was not and that's why Kamara was...

6-Though Box: Kamara upstages Meram in superior offensive performances

Columbus has a lot to be happy about with four goals while the defense remains leaky. It will be my six thoughts filling in for Josh today. The goals return The offense wasn’t really firing even with Kei Kamara on the team, but the goals came on Saturday. Ola Kamara grabbed the hat trick that has eluded Kei, even scoring two with his head. It looked like 2015 out there. With 21 team shots, 9 on target, the goals were going to come. The shot assists were coming from all over too. Crew SC created from set pieces, passes from the right and left channels. There were even chances created from...
