Boston Herald — FOXBORO — It has been an emotional start to the season for the Revolution, who have struggled for wins, battled for elusive goals, all the while carrying the emotional stress over the health of two of their family.Defender Kevin Alston remains on the disabled list as he battles a treatable form of chronic myelogenous leukemia. And John Odom, the 65-year-old father-in-law of keeper Matt Reis, was severely injured in the Boston Marathon bombings on April 15, and remains hospitalized at Boston Medical Center.

Revs’ Kevin Alston on leave to fight leukemia

Boston Herald — Revolution defender Kevin Alston has taken an indefinite leave of absence from the team to receive treatment for a form of leukemia.Alston, 24, received a diagnosis of chronic myelogenous leukemia last week and shared the news with his teammates during a team meeting yesterday morning. An undisclosed course of treatment will keep Alston away from the Revs for an undetermined period of time, but he does expect to return at some point, according to a statement issued by the club.

New England Revolution Blog | ESPN Boston — The New England Revolution announced Monday that defender Kevin Alston has been diagnosed with chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML), a rare but treatable form of leukemia, and has taken an indefinite leave of absence from the team to undergo treatment. According to the team, Alston’s medical treatment is not expected to require hospitalization and he expects to return to the team in the future. "The Revolution fully supports Kevin as he begins treatment," Revolution General Manager Michael Burns said.
