The 5 Most Disappointing Whitecaps of 2018

The 5 Most Disappointing Whitecaps of 2018

We’ve previously discussed which Whitecaps players were quietly having good seasons largely from a statistical point of view. Now it’s time to look at the players who, from a statistical point of view, are struggling (to put it nicely). 5: Brian Rowe and Stefan Marinovic Goalkeepers can be difficult to evaluate statistically. Stats like goals against average and save percentage are much more dependant on the team in front of them than they are in a sport like hockey. Grading the Whitecaps performance after sweeping the Earthquakes So the Whitecaps have done the necessary and completed the sweep of the San Jose Earthquakes. As a team they got what they needed and can look forward to the toughest section of their schedule starting next week against the Sounders. We however, will take a look back to see how each of the players fared individually. Starters Stefan Marinovic: 7.0 A fairly quiet evening for the big Kiwi. If not for the triple screen on Hyka’s opening goal, Marinovic may have had a better chance of getting across to it, but really can’t be blamed for either of the goals - especially with the good jump he got on the penalty kick, almost getting a finger on it. Marcel de Jong: 1.0 This was a rough...

Report Card: Whitecaps vs Red Bulls

The Vancouver Whitecaps dropped points at home in a 2-2 draw against New York Red Bulls. Let’s look at how the players performed individually. Stefan Marinovic: 7.5/10 A case could be made that he should have done better on both goals but both balls were played into difficult areas that are difficult for goalkeepers to come for. He also made two very important saves that potentially saved the point for the Whitecaps Jake Nerwinski: 6/10 A wholly unremarkable game from Nerwinski. Not necessarily a bad thing. Kendall Waston: 9/10 He most notably scored two goals, both times leaping over...
