Sounders sign Felix Chenkam to bolster forwards

Sounders sign Felix Chenkam to bolster forwards

19-year-old Cameroonian had been with S2 since last year. Without a true No. 9 until Will Bruin returns from injury, the Seattle Sounders finally made a move to bolster their forwards by signing Felix Chenkam from S2 on Friday. Although Chenkam will occupy the Sounders’ final open international roster spot, this will not impact their ability to make a summer signing, a team spokesperson said. The team can likely free up his roster spot by loaning him back to S2 for the full season or even placing him on the Disabled List. Also nice, regardless of if Chenkam’s contract is now guaranteed...

Seattle Sounders’ Will Bruin has partially torn plantar fascia

Will Bruin has a partially torn plantar fascia. The torn connective tissue, which links the heel bone and the individual bones in the toes, may limit Bruin’s ability to contribute to the squad for several weeks, according to Seattle Sounders head coach Brian Schmetzer. For Schmetzer, whose squad has been plagued with injuries in the first […] The post Seattle Sounders’ Will Bruin has partially torn plantar fascia appeared first on Pro Soccer USA.

Injuries, World Cup absences leave Sounders very short-handed

Injuries, World Cup absences leave Sounders very short-handed

With the news Thursday that Will Bruin may be out for weeks with a partially-torn plantar fascia, Seattle’s dwindling roster paints a dim picture. TUKWILA, Wash. — By an unofficial headcount, the Seattle Sounders will likely be missing seven of their 26 contracted players for at least the coming week. A combination of injuries and World Cup call-ups may mean that the Sounders have exactly 16 available outfield players when they host Real Salt Lake May 26. The latest shoe to drop was the partially torn plantar fascia of forward and leading scorer Will Bruin, which Brian Schmetzer...

‘Players need to take responsibility’ for getting healthy, Stefan Frei says

‘Players need to take responsibility’ for getting healthy, Stefan Frei says

Fans aren’t the only ones frustrated by Sounders’ inability to get fit. PORTLAND — The one constant throughout the Seattle Sounders’ 2018 campaign has been an enduring inability to get the roster particularly close to fully fit. In some ways, Sunday’s 1-0 loss to the Portland Timbers was a microcosm of that frustration. Injuries kept the likes of Nicolas Lodeiro (toe), Will Bruin (heel), Roman Torres (hamstring) and Osvaldo Alonso (quad) from making the trip and Nouhou (he seemed to indicate it was a stomach issue) and Kim Kee-hee (gashed head) had to be replaced during the...

Realio’s Ratings: Bruin at his best in Toronto

Realio’s Ratings: Bruin at his best in Toronto

Will Bruin made it count in big moments, sealing the Sounders away victory. It’s amazing how quickly the public perception of a team can change. Suddenly what was a horrible team with an inflexible coach is a valiant group of scrappers with a leader who masterfully adjusted his team to beat “the best team ever assembled.” Seattle has had failed plays each game this season that cost the team points, and boy was it fun to see them capitalize on those chances this time to beat Toronto 2-1 in Canada. The staff was willing to change tactics, and the Sounders responded with a game that was...

Seattle Sounders vs. Toronto FC: Community player ratings form

Seattle came in with a game plan, and this time, it worked! After a string of poor results, the Seattle Sounders got back on track with a midweek match against the reigning MLS Cup champions. Will Bruin opened the scoring and Handwalla Bwana registered his first MLS goal, which proved to be the match winner. Sounders at Toronto FC, recap: Seattle rides bear to victory

Sounders at Toronto FC, recap: Seattle rides bear to victory

Bruin and Bwana score in 2-1 win. No DPs? No problem. Seattle Sounders FC chose to rest Clint Dempsey and Osvaldo Alonso, while their third DP Nicolas Lodeiro was unavailable due to injury. In middle of a dire start to 2018 and on the road against the Toronto FC team that thumped the Sounders in last year’s MLS Cup, the Rave Green rolled out a 5-4-1, played bunker-counter soccer and used subs to shift the tactics but not the formation. Not only did they win 2-1, they had fun doing it. Behind goals from Will Bruin and Handwalla Bwana, the Sounders moved out of the bottom spot in the West...

Sounders’ attack out of gas, ideas

Sounders’ attack out of gas, ideas

No one can hide from the reality there was no creativity in the attack. SEATTLE — Most people are their own harshest critics. Will Bruin certainly gave the impression that the Seattle Sounders were feeling that way after a lackluster 0-0 draw at home against a 10-man Columbus Crew Saturday, saying that the offense was too stagnant in trying to break down the Crew. After the match, most of the team seemed unenthusiastic about answering questions regarding the result. Bruin didn’t pull any punches about how he felt the attack had performed. “We were too slow, we moved it too slow,”...
