Dynamo fans ejected from Toyota Stadium Sunday, clubs and fans respond

While the Houston Dynamo caused few problems for FC Dallas on the pitch on Sunday night, Toyota Stadium security had their hands full with several incidents that culminated in the mass removal of the visiting supporters' section with around 15 minutes of the game left to play. This was the scene as security staff, as well as Frisco PD officers, requested that Dynamo fans retreat to their chartered buses which were parked a short distance from the east gate, close to the section. This is highly unusual, typically away fans are held in the stadium to allow home fans to disperse. There have been...

FC Dallas notebook: Reto Ziegler spearheads a new team quirk; club has a chance to continue its playoff push

FC Dallas notebook: Reto Ziegler spearheads a new team quirk; club has a chance to continue its playoff push

Reto Ziegler fired his penalty kick into the net for FC Dallas' first goal Sunday and a new song echoed around Toyota Stadium. Rather than the typical post-goal song, it was a track from French rapper MHD. Later, forward Zdenek Ondrasek got on the scoresheet prompting Europop to play from the speakers. Ultimately, fans got to hear a number of different goal songs in FCD's 5-1 victory over the Houston Dynamo. It's a new quirk for FCD, with Ziegler spearheading an effort for each player to pick their own song to play after scoring a goal - not unlike a baseball player's walk-up song."Yeah, it...

The Breakdown: Houston Dynamo at FC Dallas

The Breakdown: Houston Dynamo at FC Dallas

Any time a team blows out its biggest rival in a derby game it's going to be fun for both players and fans. That was certainly the case on Sunday when FC Dallas scored the most goals they ever have in one game against Houston Dynamo winning 5-1.Let's break it down.Lineups and TacticsFC Dallas in the 4-3-3 with a couple of small tactical shift. First, Brandon Servania started for Paxton Pomykal along with a shift to a traditional 6-8-10 midfield set up rather than the 6-8-8 of recent games. Second, Zdenek Ondrasek got the start at the 9 allowing Dom Badji to move to the left wing.Pomykal came...

In a must-win game, FC Dallas came up with a crucial 3 points against Houston to put them back in the playoff picture

In a must-win game, FC Dallas came up with a crucial 3 points against Houston to put them back in the playoff picture

FRISCO -- It was a must-win game, and FC Dallas won it emphatically, topping the rival Houston Dynamo 5-1 on Sunday night to earn three points and stay in the playoff hunt. With 10 minutes still to play, many of the traveling Dynamo supporters made their way toward the exit with the home crowd launching a "bye-bye, Houston," chant. The fans remaining in the section were able to cheer a late consolation goal from Memo Rodriguez, but even that did little to spoil the celebratory mood in Toyota Stadium. The victory pushes FCD to the seventh and final playoff spot in the Western Conference with six...

FC Dallas roster rankings: Week 25

FC Dallas roster rankings: Week 25

We're back for a little pre-Texas Derby roster ranking. We think we've settled on the cycle of every second or third week to let some more happen within the team. We've seen the Garden Snake emerge into something closer resembling a predator, albeit one that can't complete a pass. We've seen Edwin Gyasi debut then decide he's too tired to play after 30 minutes. We've also seen the return of Eric Alexander, but we've opted to leave him off the rankings this week because we 1) forgot he re-signed, and 2) seems like he's here purely as a practice player right now so it may be unfair until he's...

Ahead of 'must-win' game, FC Dallas has extra motivation to keep Houston from interfering with their playoff hopes

Ahead of 'must-win' game, FC Dallas has extra motivation to keep Houston from interfering with their playoff hopes

FRISCO -- Luchi Gonzalez is a nice guy. The first-year coach of FC Dallas can get forceful with a message when he needs to, but he's not one to give a paint-peeling rant after a match or go after a referee if he feels like a call didn't go his way.The guy was a math teacher, for goodness sake. So when he says he has some animosity toward FCD's rival, the Houston Dynamo, you have to take note. "I have a teaching background so the word hate is not one that I like to use, but we're certainly going to build an energy to make sure that Houston's not in our way in terms of our plans to get into...

With debut goal behind him, Zdenek Ondrasek is ready to play a part in FC Dallas' playoff push

FRISCO — Look at Zdenek Ondrasek with his buzz cut and both arms covered with tattoos and you may see a guy who looks every bit the person you'd expect to be from a town whose Wikipedia entry says "became an industrial center known for its motorbikes and hand guns." He even has a tough nickname "The Cobra" to boot. Then he smiles and cracks a joke. And he keeps smiling. And keeps joking. And keeps smiling. And keeps joking. FC Dallas coach Luchi Gonzalez says even as the intimidating-looking forward struggled for minutes this year, he's kept the team's goals in mind and "done it with...

FC Dallas news, notes, and practice observations - August 21 - Intensity carries over

FC Dallas news, notes, and practice observations - August 21 - Intensity carries over

FC Dallas used a positive mentality, some aggressiveness, and some good old fashioned fight to climb back from a 3-0 deficit to tie on the road last weekend and that mentality has carried over to this week. This is an intense session and Coach Luchi Gonzalez intentionally pushes the pace even higher as he challenges players.Today is about overloading zones. Getting the extra player into various areas of the field. Most of the drills include extra attackers, fast transitions - forward, backward, side to side - and an aggressive mindset.Quite frankly, it's a blast to watch. One of the better...
