Toronto FC II vs. Charlotte Independence: Match preview

Toronto FC II vs. Charlotte Independence: Match preview

Hear from Chris Pozniak & Aidan Daniels once more as TFC II prepare for their second match of the week, touching on lessons from the last encounter & Daniels stepping up Toronto FC II will look to take the positives from Wednesday’s raucous 5-4 loss in Atlanta and leave the rest behind as they head to North Carolina for a match against the Charlotte Independence on Saturday evening – kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. The match against Atlanta United 2 was indeed a wild one; odd for many reasons: TFC II scoring goals aplenty, where they have struggled previously; conceding just as readily,...

Toronto FC vs. Orlando City: Preview & game thread

Toronto FC vs. Orlando City: Preview & game thread

Can the Reds get it done without Seba? Tonight, Toronto FC will look to pull back some sort of ground in the standings against Orlando City, who may well be jockeying with TFC for positioning come the fall. The 10th-placed Reds have now lost two on the trot, suffering blows at the hands of the Seattle Sounders and New England Revolution. Unfortunately, TFC may be a little stunted in attack tonight. Jozy Altidore remains out of the lineup with injury, and Sebastian Giovinco will be serving his one-match suspension for the red card he took at the end of Saturday’s game. The latter is...

Predicting Toronto FC’s lineup against Orlando City

Predicting Toronto FC’s lineup against Orlando City

TFC without Giovinco as Orlando come to town Orlando City SC come to Toronto on Friday evening for a game with a Giovinco-less Toronto FC. Giovinco, who picked up a silly red card in the dying moments of the match away to New England last Saturday, will be serving his one match suspension. Without an injured Jozy Altidore as well, Greg Vanney will have to be creative when selecting the attacking portion of his lineup in this one. I think Vanney will go with a 4-2-3-1 formation in this one, as Chris Mavinga is back from injury, allowing Michael Bradley to finally return to the...

Did Sebastian Giovinco actually deserve a red card?

Did Sebastian Giovinco actually deserve a red card?

You might think it’s obvious…but hear me out. Toronto FC’s last game was painful. There’s no way of getting around that. Careless defensive play resulted in a 3-0 deficit, before an own-goal and late penalty gave fans a glimmer of hope. That was, until Sebastian Giovinco decided to grab the face of New England Revolution midfielder Wilfried Zahibo after he had attempted to knock the ball of out Seba’s hands. A red card soon followed, and any hope of TFC securing a comeback was gone. But, did it deserve to be a red card? Despite the general consensus that it was a clear red card,...

Star striker Dom Dwyer out for Orlando City’s game against Toronto FC

Orlando City officials confirmed striker Dom Dwyer will miss the club’s Friday match against Toronto FC.  Dwyer, who has six goals so far this season, did not travel with the team to Toronto. Toronto FC Prediction League 2018: Round 18 (vs. Orlando)

Toronto FC Prediction League 2018: Round 18 (vs. Orlando)

Back home, but without Seba. Well. Let’s try and put the last couple of Toronto FC matches out of mind, shall we? Last time out, the Reds lost 3-2 to the New England Revolution, and as a result a lot of you took a hit in the prediction league. That said, a fair few commenters guessed that TFC would score two goals, and a smaller few predicted a Toronto loss. So it wasn’t all bad for prediction league players. We also, for the first time, have some movement at the top of our leaderboard. Thanks to a three-point game from predicting a 3-1 TFC loss, RustyRamone has jumped ahead of Arjon...

Footy Talks Podcast: At what point do we panic about Toronto FC?

Footy Talks Podcast: At what point do we panic about Toronto FC?

That red line is getting further and further away Toronto FC have proven to be good under pressure. The Concacaf Champions League campaign, last year’s playoffs, even the Voyageurs Cup. When there is a must win game Toronto FC almost always comes out on top. They probably didn’t expect to be playing pressure packed games this early in the MLS season, though. After emerging from the gauntlet that was the CCL, the reds are now arguably fighting for their playoff lives in mid-May. It is too early to panic, and there have been a lot of overreactions to this run by fans who rightly expect...

Offensive explosion not enough for Toronto FC II as they lose by the odd goal in nine at Atlanta United 2

Offensive explosion not enough for Toronto FC II as they lose by the odd goal in nine at Atlanta United 2

TFC II fall 5-4 away to ATL UTD 2 on Wednesday night in Georgia Toronto FC II lost a third-straight match on Wednesday night, as they fell 5-4 in an epic goal-fest against Atlanta United 2 at Coolray Field in Georgia. Or, as it seems to be branded: ‘The Proving Ground’. A quick look at the settings and one got the sense this was going to be a strange one. A lively enough venue, being a converted baseball stadium – home of the Triple-A Gwinnett Stripers (note the one ‘p’) – and it didn’t take long for the action to get underway. Atlanta took the lead after five minutes when...

Michael Bradley on Toronto FC’s crazy start: ‘You find out a lot about yourself’

Toronto FC is searching for a turning point. After back-to-back losses, the Reds’ slow start to the MLS season quickly transitioned from a minor, and partially expected, setback to the brink of a full-blown crisis. Toronto is 10 points behind the New England Revolution, the most recent team to beat them, for the last […] The post Michael Bradley on Toronto FC’s crazy start: ‘You find out a lot about yourself’ appeared first on Pro Soccer USA.

Toronto FC Vs Orlando City: The fear of losing looms

Toronto FC host Orlando City on Friday night with both teams in desperate need of a win to preserve their postseason hopes. The fear of losing certainly looms large. Orlando City not underestimating shorthanded Toronto FC

There’s a list of reasons for Orlando City to doubt Toronto FC. The Reds are in second-to-last place in the Eastern Conference table with just seven points through nine matches. Top striker Jozy Altidore is out after foot surgery. Sebastian Giovinco, the club’s most expensive player, will miss Friday’s meeting between the two clubs after […] The post Orlando City not underestimating shorthanded Toronto FC appeared first on Pro Soccer USA.

Canada Soccer releases new red jersey

Canada Soccer releases new red jersey

Not a bad look for the Canadian national teams. Canada Soccer has unveiled a new red jersey, which both the men’s and women’s national teams will wear. They’ve gone for a simple, bright look, with some white trim on the shoulders. The shirt also appears to have subtle maple leaves printed on the chest (not too unlike Toronto FC’s 2013/14 home shirt). The new jersey was revealed in a video posted on Canada Soccer’s social media, featuring a number of national team players like Christine Sinclair, Ashley Lawrence, Scott Arfield, and Junior Hoilett. The new @umbrocanada #CanadaRED...

Rate the Reds: Chris Mavinga positive in sub appearance

Rate the Reds: Chris Mavinga positive in sub appearance

The defender looked good in his return to the pitch. The weekend did not go at all as Toronto FC planned, with a 3-2 loss at Gillette Stadium to the New England Revolution adding another painful memory to a rough week in TFC fandom. The Reds were down pretty much from the get-go, and as a result they were chasing the game for about 85 minutes. The fan voting wasn’t particularly kind to many of the TFC players. Only six finished with a positive overall rating, and some of those were only by a hair. The man of the match is Chris Mavinga, who played about half an hour in relief of Ager...
