Peachtree Hoops Expectations By some accounts Anthony Tolliver was the last Hawk to make the opening day roster. Larry Drew preferred a more seasoned player to the likes of Damion James and James Anderson. Prior to signing with Atlanta, Anthony Tolliver courted a position with the Hawks via social media proclaiming that he would provide a dimension the Hawks lacked in the form of a stretch big. Beyond the long distance shooting touch expectation that he set himself, I think expectations were modest in that we expected a professional who would do whatever it took to stick with the club, but not real...

Peachtree Hoops The Atlanta Hawks got big games once again from Josh Smith and Al Horford in Sunday's 104-99 win however it was the play of several key reserves that may have swung the victory. Anthony Tolliver didn't even play in the first half but hit a three, came up with a big steal and grabbed a key offensive rebound in the decisive fourth quarter. His steal of an errant Monta Ellis pass in the fourth quarter set up Dahntay Jones' go ahead free throw with just 22 seconds remaining. Jones made the first and missed the second but there was Tolliver to secure the offensive board. Al Horford eventua...

Liberty Ballers This game was a parody of games. It happened as Sixersy as you expected it would. Sixers got out to an early lead, Atlanta game roaring back to score 59 points in 19 minutes, Damien Wilkins and Anthony Tolliver both score 21, Hawks win. Pretty much the way anybody would draw it up. But my favorite thing has to be this screenshot of the final moments of the game. I'm going to print this out and frame it on my refrigerator. Regardless of score or context, this is the best 14.9 seconds of basketball ever played. You could show this to Charles Barkley, and were it not for the team names, ...

Peachtree Hoops Atlanta Hawks head coach Larry Drew met with the media following Friday's shootaround and said that he was sticking with the same starting lineup that includes Anthony Tolliver as the team's small forward for tonight's game against the Hornets. The Hawks will again be without DeShawn Stevenson who is out which further limits Drew's options at small forward. Drew went with Tolliver in Wednesday's win over the Grizzlies in an effort to match up with Tayshaun Prince at small forward. Tolliver finished with eight points and seven rebounds in just over 28 minutes of action Wednesday. He wi...

Peachtree Hoops The Hawks will start Jeff Teague, Kyle Korver, Anthony Tolliver (!), Josh Smith, and Al Horford. Larry Drew said he wanted Tolliver's length against the lanky Tayshaun Prince, and with Zaza Pachulia still out with his sore Achilles', the Hawks options for going big at the three are limited. DeShawn Stevenson will be out as well which seriously cuts down on Drew's options at small forward. Devin Harris (foot) will be available for the Hawks and could be important to keeping the Hawks playing up-tempo against the grind-it-out style of the Grizzlies. Atlanta will have to find a way to tur...
