Cavaliers notebook: Tristan Thompson angry with his performance against Bismack Biyombo in Games 3 and 4

CLEVELAND: Cavaliers center Tristan Thompson was admittedly ticked off with his play of late.Thompson has been matched up on surging Toronto Raptors center Bismack Biyombo in the NBA Eastern Conference finals. Raptors coach Dwane Casey called on the 6-foot-9 center to fill the shoes of injured Jonas Valanciunas. Although he didn’t provide a sterling effort in the first two games, in the second two, Biyombo was golden, collecting 40 rebounds, including 11 on the offensive end.“Any time in the series, at the end of the day it’s about wins and losses, but at the same time, in the course of...

Playoff open thread: 05/25/16

All kinds of weirdness going on in the NBA playoffs at the moment. Can the Raptors continue that trend in Cleveland? Included with each matchup is a list of each team's unrestricted (UFA) and restricted (RFA) free agents. I've added a few players who will probably opt out of their contracts this summer, ignoring the Dirk Nowitzki and Tim Duncan types who certainly aren't going anywhere. Go future Knicks! 8:30 PM - Toronto Raptors at Cleveland Cavaliers Raptors Free Agents: Luis Scola (UFA), James Johnson (UFA), Jason Thompson (UFA), DeMar DeRozan (player option), Bismack Biyombo (player...

Tristan Thompson must do a better job on Bismack Biyombo in Game 5

Biyombo is averaging 20.0 rebounds in the last two games. Nobody from Thompson to Channing Frye has been able to keep him off of the glass. Knowing Thompson like I do, this is killing him inside.

Poll: How should the Raptors use Jonas Valanciunas in Game 5?

Jonas Valanciunas helped power the Raptors through the early part of the playoffs, but where does he fit against the Cavs? Jonas Valanciunas game close to making his return from a sprained ankle in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals. Raptors coach Dwane Casey said after the game that he came close to inserting the team's usual starting five in for Bismack Biyombo, who was two fouls deep, late in the second quarter with the Raptors up big. Ultimately, Casey chose against disrupting the status quo that had been keeping the Cavs shackled to that point. "I almost did, right before half...

The Cavs have a Bismack Biyombo problem

Bismack Biyombo has looked unstoppable in the Cavs' two Eastern Conference Finals losses. How can the Cavs corral the Raptors' backup big? The Cleveland Cavaliers lost Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals last night, falling behind early to the Toronto Raptors before a comeback ultimately was quashed in a 105-99 loss. That evened the series at 2-2, and a big reason for both of those wins now has been the play of Bismack Biyombo. Biyombo has been unstoppable on the boards in the past two games, following up his enormous seven point, 26-rebound effort in Game 3 with five points, 14...

They the (Not So) North: Raptors Beat Cavs to Even Series

The Raps beat the Cavs in a game that came down to the final minutes in Toronto to even the series at 2 games apiece. In a surprising development, the Raps rebounded from two ugly losses to open the Eastern Conference Finals to take the next two at home and even the series, last night in pulsating fashion. After getting beaten up in Cleveland, a change of approach was needed, and Dwayne Casey decided that it was more important to protect the paint than take away the three point line, which they had stressed early in the series. Bismack Biyombo responded with a two game tour de force...

Cavaliers notebook: Dahntay Jones insists foul on Bismack Biyombo wasn’t intentional

TORONTO: Dahntay Jones insisted Monday his groin shot on Bismack Biyombo at the end of Game 3 was not intentional and he was surprised by the one-game suspension he served during Game 4. Asked if he meant to punch Biyombo below the waist, Jones responded, “not at all.” He said it was his responsibility to pick up Biyombo on the play. “I was ready to catch him, the shot went up, I went to go box him out, keep him off the boards and that was it,” Jones said. “The league contacted me to get my side. Then they contacted me back and said it was a unanimous decision that there was...
