The Timberwolves released shooting guard Brandon Roy on Friday, an expected move considering his history of knee problems and the fact that he did not play after the fifth game of the season.

The Wolves have officially waived Brandon Roy. I don't think any of us will forget all the thrills and chills of the Brandon Roy era. Yet another piece of evidence that the shooting guard position is cursed for the T-Wolves. Watch out, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, you might be next. Story about Kevin Garnett and his career featuring quotes from both Kevin McHale and Flip Saunders can be found here. The Philadelphia 76ers have hired former Rockets VP Sam Hinkie to be their new General Manager. Hinkie is credited with helping to run the Rockets' analytics department as well as salary c...

From Wolves.com: The Minnesota Timberwolves today announced that the team has waived guard Brandon Roy. "We wish Brandon and his family all the best in the future," said Timberwolves President of Basketball Operations Flip Saunders. During the 2012-13 NBA season, Roy appeared in five games with the Timberwolves, and averaged 5.8 points, 4.6 assists and 2.8 rebounds in 24.4 minutes per game. Roy signed with the Timberwolves as a free agent on July 31. Roy was always a high risk signing. In theory, he was a great fit for Adelman's system, and there was the (very) remote possibility he...

Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports reports that the Minnesota Timberwolves are set to release former Portland Trail Blazers guard Brandon Roy after just one season of a two-year contract he signed last summer. The Minnesota Timberwolves are formalizing the release of Brandon Roy, ridding themselves of the $5.3 million owed him in the 2013-14 season, league sources told Yahoo! Sports. An announcement is expected in the near future. After seven knee surgeries for Roy, this is likely the end of a career once destined for greatness. Update: The Timberwolves officially made the announcem...

The last time the Blazers sent a Rookie of the Year to the lottery, Brandon Roy came home with the No. 1 overall pick in 2007 ... but this time the chances are 1.1 percent.

Saunders has quickly made his mark as the new POBO of the Timberwolves. Per Jerry Zgoda, he has dismissed all Wolves scouts whos contracts expired this year (Pete Philo, JT Prada, Curtis Crawford, Steve Gordon and Will Conroy) Yes, that's Will Conroy the player and Brandon Roy's buddy, who was made a special assignment scout after being waived from the roster at the beginning of the year. The Wolves will retain Milt Barnes and Derek Pierce....for now. But I'd say it's pretty clear they're getting thrown out of the mansion one way or another. Not clear what Saunders' end-game is here. ...

-
Timberwolves coach Rick Adelman said he's not expecting injured guard Brandon Roy to play again this season, even though Roy recently went through a "brief practice" with the team.

This is just a quick post to say thanks to Portland artist Maddison Bond for designing the new Blazersedge Facebook cover photo. Bond drew this beautiful "Rip City" mural that includes Bill Walton, Terry Porter, Clyde Drexler, Arvydas Sabonis and Brandon Roy. Click on the image for a larger size. You might remember Bond from such classics as "Luke Babbitt, Chalupa Man" and this great LaMarcus Aldridge piece. He's selling prints of this piece if you're interested. Purchase prints here if you're interested. He's also selling the original. If you're interested in purchasing it, email him...

I have been a season long negative Nancy and it's irritated more than a few of our loyal readers. To a degree, this is more or less how I am with sports. I remember feeling broken after the 2011 playoff game in Portland when Brandon Roy went nuts. I probably felt relief more than joy when Dallas finally won in Miami later that year. I got into writing after having day long melt downs during Odomgate in 2012. But I can also get swept up in the moment. A three game win streak! I've been delighted as anyone over these past three games. They're four games back from both the final playoff s...

Mike Acker of Rip City Project caught up with former Portland Trail Blazers forward/center Chris Johnson when the Minnesota Timberwolves were in town. In this piece for Willamette Week, Acker draws a nice contrast between the attention paid to Brandon Roy's return and Johnson's relative anonymity. "I still see it as like a 10-day. That's just my mindset," Johnson says of his future as a professional basketball player. "You never know. Anything can happen anytime. You have to look at it that way. Like, control what you can, come in every day, bring all the positive attitude and bring a...

The Portland Trail Blazers defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves, 109-94, at the Rose Garden on Saturday night, improving to 27-31 on the season. Move over, death and taxes, Saturday served as a reminder of two other certainties: Brandon Roy will always believe his body will allow him to play in the near future -- maybe next week, maybe the week after -- and the Timberwolves will not be worth watching come March. The first tendency when a hero returns is to glorify, but Roy's stalled career makes that difficult, at least on this night. He's just so clearly stuck -- one foot in the past, ...
