Game preview: Portland Trailblazers vs. San Antonio Spurs

Game preview: Portland Trailblazers vs. San Antonio Spurs

On the second night of a back-to-back, a tough matchup awaits the Spurs. The Spurs suffered a pretty frustrating loss the last time they met up with the Blazers back in February. In spite of 35 points from DeMar DeRozan, they were unable to keep Portland’s duo of Damian Lillard and C.J. McCollum from getting anything they wanted in route to a 127-118 defeat. They also decided to allow Jusef Nurkic go off for a cool 22 points, among many other defensive travesties. All in all, not a great game plan from the Silver & Black. The loss up in Portland also came near the beginning of the Rodeo...

Lillard, Collins Stem Pelicans on Julius Randle’s Career-High Night

New Orleans’ young star went crazy against the Blazers, but solid play carried Portland home. The Portland Trail Blazers edged out an uncomfortable win against an undermanned New Orleans Pelicans team tonight as Damian Lillard moved into second place on the franchise’s all-time scoring list. Anthony Davis and Jrue Holiday sat for New Orleans. Julius Randle tried to compensate by scoring a career-high 45 points, but contributions across the board for Portland helped them close out a much-needed victory. The game played like a ping pong match, back and forth. The Blazers struggled with...

Damian Lillard passes LaMarcus Aldridge for 2nd place on Blazers all-time scoring list

The Portland Trail Blazers wouldn’t be perennial playoff contenders if not for the contributions made by All-Star point guard Damian Lillard. In 2012, Lillard was taken off the NBA Draft board with the sixth-overall pick, and the franchise never regretted their decision ever since. The 28-year-old sharpshooter has been the focal point of Portland’s offense […] The post Damian Lillard passes LaMarcus Aldridge for 2nd place on Blazers all-time scoring list appeared first on ClutchPoints.

Five of LaMarcus Aldridge’s Best Scoring Games With the Blazers

Aldridge is about to cede his standing as the No. 2 scorer in Portland history. We look back on some of his best scoring games. On Dec. 9, 2014, LaMarcus Aldridge passed up Portland Trail Blazers legend Terry Porter for the No. 2 spot on Portland’s all-time leading scorers list. He did so with a buzzer-beating, step-back 3-pointer to end the first quarter. Aldridge finished his Portland career with 12,562 points before leaving for the San Antonio Spurs. Now Damian Lillard is set to pass Aldridge when the Blazers play the New Orleans Pelicans on Friday, only needing three points to take...

Lowe: Damian Lillard Looks Ready for the Playoffs

The popular ESPN columnist keeps finding new reasons to be impressed with Portland’s superstar. The 2019 NBA Playoffs are still a month away, but ESPN columnist Zach Lowe says Portland Trail Blazers All-Star Damian Lillard looks more than ready today. Lowe feted Lillard in his weekly “10 Things I Like (and Don’t Like) About the NBA” column today. Lowe’s praise centers around a video of Lillard confounding the Oklahoma City Thunder defense. Lowe cites Lillard’s evolution as a ball handler and scorer. He has logged between 35.4 and 36.6 minutes per game for six seasons running....

Why the Blazers Can’t Stay Together

Why the Blazers Can’t Stay Together

Portland looks like a potential powerhouse, but their rotation will be short-lived. Here’s why. The 2018-19 Portland Trail Blazers are cruising towards a potential 50-win season and some of the most exciting playoffs matchups in recent memory. Amazing play from Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum, a fantastic year from Jusuf Nurkic, and a significantly-bolstered supporting cast make the Blazers a team to be reckoned with...or at least grudgingly respected. But how long do they have to prove themselves before financial and free agency realities hit? That’s the subject of today’s Blazer’s...

Comparing Damian Lillard’s Numbers to Other Top NBA Guards

Damian Lillard has been great this season — but how do his numbers stack up compared to the rest of the NBA’s best guards? Barring a shocking occurrence, Damian Lillard will pass LaMarcus Aldridge as the second-leading scorer in Portland Trail Blazers history tonight. Seven seasons into his career, Lillard is already one of the best Blazers of all time. While Lillard’s never won an MVP, his high standing in the NBA is reflected in league-wide awards and honors. Lillard has made four NBA All-Star teams and three All-NBA teams thus far, with one of those All-NBA selections being for the...

LaMarcus Aldridge is open to reuniting with Damian Lillard in Portland someday

LMA has talked with Lillard about playing together again. If you were around them at the 2019 NBA All-Star game, you never would have known that there was ever a rift between Damian Lillard and LaMarcus Aldridge from their Trail Blazers days. They hashed things out long ago just by talking things through, and they were as close as anyone in Charlotte, even sitting down with The Atlantic’s Jason Quick to discuss their mended relationship (subscription required). Perhaps the most interesting part to Spurs fans is where Aldridge reveals a discussion he has had multiple times with Lillard...
