Cleveland Cavaliers guard/forward Kyle Korver will be able to make his team debut for Tuesday's matchup with the Utah Jazz. What It Means: Mike Dunleavy completed his physical on Tuesday, meaning Korver will now see all the wide open threes he can handle while playing alongside LeBron James and Kyrie Irving in the Cavaliers' offense. Expect him to initially come off the bench before supplanting DeAndre Liggins as Cleveland's starting two-guard. Our models expect Korver to log 22.5 minutes versus Utah and project him for 7.5 points and 2.7 3-pointers. Source:...

Jason Lloyd: Kyle Korver allows Cavs to take positive steps but finish line a long way away

SAN FRANCISCO: The wheels of progress are turning, slowly but surely for the Cavaliers. It will be months still before they are whole, before they have all of their pieces in place, but the first two important moves have been completed. Kyle Korver’s addition has given the Cavs’ bench some much-needed pop. That was No. 1. It has also allowed coach Tyronn Lue the flexibility to move Iman Shumpert into the starting lineup. Move No. 2. Shumpert was always an upgrade over DeAndre Liggins, but Lue was hesitant to make the switch because of how thin it left the Cavs in the backcourt and on the...

Iman Shumpert to start for Cavs, DeAndre Liggins off the bench vs. Kings

SACRAMENTO, CALIF.: Iman Shumpert will replace DeAndre Liggins in the starting lineup Friday when the Cavaliers host the Sacramento Kings, Cavs coach Tyronn Lue said. Lue has resisted moving Shumpert into the starting lineup for weeks because he insisted he wanted his production off the bench, but the recent addition of Kyle Korver has given Lue more punch in his bench scoring. “Just playing with the starters, I think Shump played a lot better,” Lue said. “That’s what he was accustomed to doing. He’s been trying to come in and help carry the second unit. It’s tough on...

Ty Lue: Kyle Korver will come off the bench for the Cavs, DeAndre Liggins to start

Liggins has made quite the impression DeAndre Liggins wasn’t in the NBA at this time a season ago. Thanks to his skillset and performance, he will now be starting at shooting guard over Kyle Korver for the defending champion Cleveland Cavaliers. Liggins was thrust into a starting role with the hand injury to J.R. Smith, and has been a great fit in the starting lineup. For now he’s making enough threes to keep himself on the court, and playing good to very good defense. He’s been good enough that at least for now, newly acquired Kyle Korver will not slide into J.R. Smith’s starting...

Cavs’ bench Guards step up as Cavaliers beat Hornets 121-109

Without Kyrie Irving, the Cavs needed DeAndre Liggins, Kay Felder, and Jordan McRae to step up. They did, and the Cavs dominated the Hornets. The Cleveland Cavaliers faced off against the Eastern Conference’s 4th-best team in the Charlotte Hornets tonight. They were without their two starting guards, as Kyrie Irving joined J.R. Smith on the sideline with a hamstring injury. You’d think this would be a problem, but the Cavs won 121-109 anyway. The Cavs needed two things to compensate for Irving’s absence: Competence from the trio of DeAndre Liggins, Jordan McRae, and Kay Felder, and...

J.R. Smith to miss at least three months following thumb surgery

J.R. Smith is expected to miss at least three months following surgery Friday to repair a “complex fracture” in his right thumb. The Cavs estimated his return at 12-14 weeks, which would put him back on the court around the start of April. Hand specialist Dr. Thomas Graham performed the surgery at the Crystal Clinic Orthopaedic Center in Montrose. DeAndre Liggins is expected to remain Smith’s replacement in the starting lineup for the foreseeable future.

J.R. Smith injures thumb vs. Bucks, x-rays inconclusive

‘Swish’ picks up an injury as the Cavs beat the Bucks. The Cleveland Cavaliers may have picked up a win against the Milwaukee Bucks, but it appears they’ll return home a bit more banged up. Starting shooting guard J.R. Smith hurt his right thumb during the first half and didn’t return for the second. DeAndre Liggins started the half in his place. After the game, it was revealed that x-rays were ‘inconclusive’ and Smith’s status is currently unknown. X-rays on JR's thumb were inconclusive. Doesn't sound amazing— Joe Vardon (@joevardon) December 21, 2016 At this point,...
