AD’s health, team defense and DeMarcus Cousins top most pleasant surprises of 2016-17

AD’s health, team defense and DeMarcus Cousins top most pleasant surprises of 2016-17

It wasn’t an entirely disappointing season for the New Orleans Pelicans. Despite a 34-48 record, the New Orleans Pelicans had quite a few positives emerge this season. Name the most pleasant surprise or theme to emerge from the 2016-17 campaign. (It can revolve around an individual player, reflect upon part or the whole team, be the implementation of a new coaching strategy, anything!) Jason: New additions to roster As I have said, I think the best part of the season was the new pieces New Orleans added over the course of the year. Cousins is a superstar talent, Jordan Crawford will win...

Evaluating Dell Demps future as the New Orleans Pelicans general manager

Evaluating Dell Demps future as the New Orleans Pelicans general manager

After seven seasons, is it time for the franchise to have a new voice? Dell Demps has held the title of New Orleans Pelicans general manager since July 21, 2010. During that time, the team has made the playoffs just twice and owns a 237-321 win-loss record. We don’t have to tell you a 42.5% win percentage isn’t good, but with a roster that currently includes Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins, perhaps these results deserve less focus. Should the Pelicans look to move in another direction from general manager Dell Demps or give him another season to get back into the playoffs? Jason:...

Identifying how the Pelicans should best maximize the talents of DeMarcus Cousins

Identifying how the Pelicans should best maximize the talents of DeMarcus Cousins

Avis Yerocostas of Sactown Royalty helps to decipher the Boogie enigma and what New Orleans can expect moving forward. The first 17 games for DeMarcus Cousins in New Orleans were a mixed bag, leading many to jump off the bandwagon at too early a stage. The Pelicans recorded a 1-6 record over his first seven appearances and then the team went 6-4 over the last 10, with these four losses going down to the wire. That echoes a massive improvement and is an encouraging sign for fans that have enjoyed just one playoff trip since Anthony Davis’ arrival in the Big Easy. There were a lot of...

Contemplating the future of Alvin Gentry with the New Orleans Pelicans

Contemplating the future of Alvin Gentry with the New Orleans Pelicans

Should he stay or should he go? Alvin Gentry has compiled a 64-100 record through two seasons in New Orleans. This 39% winning percentage is the lowest mark among his five head coaching jobs in the NBA. Obviously there’s a lot of other factors that need to be considered when scrutinizing someone’s livelihood, but the time to answer the hardest question has come. Should the Pelicans move on from Alvin Gentry or stay the course to open another season? Jason: Replace I personally think that Gentry's run in New Orleans should come to an end unless Anthony Davis or DeMarcus Cousins adamantly...

2017 Player Reviews: DeMarcus Cousins arrives and gives Anthony Davis a legitimate second star

It took a couple games to get acclimated, but then BoogieBrow took flight DeMarcus Cousins plays for the New Orleans Pelicans. I can write an article about one of the best centers in the entire NBA suiting up in New Orleans without resorting to fan fiction or firing up ESPN’s Trade Machine. A search for “Pelicans DeMarcus Cousins” returns results that are not photoshopped. This trade really happened. At least for one more season #BoogieBrow is a thing in the NBA beyond the Western Conference All-Stars and Team USA in the summer. I am still pinching myself, waiting for the dream to end...

The Pelicans season and future fortunes changed dramatically following DeMarcus Cousins trade

The Pelicans season and future fortunes changed dramatically following DeMarcus Cousins trade

Grading New Orleans 2016-17 NBA season The New Orleans Pelicans missed the playoffs and a .500 W/L record by a wide margin similar to the 2015-16 campaign. Yet, unlike Alvin Gentry’s first go around, there were substantial differences between the two seasons. The first was overcome by a laughable amount of injuries, but the latest was saddled with offensive ineptness until a trade for DeMarcus Cousins seemingly swung the door open to NBA relevancy. With such a mixed bag, how would you rate this season as a whole on a scale of 1 (dumpster fire) - 10 (raging success)? Jason: 7 I would rate...

Pelicans hit the under on wins, but optimism arrived with DeMarcus Cousins

Pressure and expectations tag along with optimism in the NBA The New Orleans Pelicans finished their season last night with a victory, number 34 on the season. All told they finished with the 10th best record in the West and seven games behind the eighth seeded Portland Trail Blazers. They will enter the NBA Lottery in the tenth slot with 4% chance at leaping into the top three and keeping their first round pick. Absent lottery luck the pick will convey to the Sacramento Kings, fulfilling all of the Pelicans' obligations in regards to the DeMarcus Cousins trade. Despite Anthony Davis...

Lakers vs. Pelicans Game Preview: The last hurrah in LA

The Lakers close out their STAPLES Center season. The Los Angeles Lakers’ season has reached its final stage, just two games left that are going down in back-to-back fashion. Their season in Los Angeles, however, ends Tuesday night against the New Orleans Pelicans. Hang on to your seats, folks, this one promises to be... well... something. NBA Preview: Pelicans and Lakers limp to finish line with Davis, Cousins and Russell all expected to sit

Two more games to go! Yet another game featuring zero superstars for New Orleans. For the second straight contest, Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins will be sidelined, this time when the Pelicans face the Lakers in Los Angeles. Can you tell the end of the regular season will mercifully be over in a mere few days? Before we arrive at the finish line, however, two more games must be played out. Up first on the docket will be the Lakers, the team which waved the first white flag of the season. Luol Deng and Timofey Mozgov have been healthy DNP’s for weeks now as a decision was made to hand...
