Scoreless Derrick Rose feeling out of place in Team USA win

Derrick Rose admittedly isn’t in his element. All-Star teams and USA Basketball don’t seem to be his cup of tea. So while Team USA continued to cruise through the FIBA World Cup on Saturday in Barcelona, Rose was going scoreless. Thanks to six three-pointers from Stephen Curry, the U.S. team advanced to the quarterfinals with an 86-63 victory over Mexico, and Rose, playing in his sixth game in eight days, went 0-for-5 from the field and had three assists, a...

Derrick Rose coming around for Team USA

For a few minutes on Thursday, it appeared Derrick Rose would be back in the starting lineup for Team USA.

Derrick Rose starting to make impact; Team USA routs D.R.

There was a pulse Wednesday. It was faint early on but pumping with excitement in the third quarter of Team USA’s 106-71 victory against the Dominican Republic. It took four games in the group phase of the FIBA World Cup, but Bulls guard Derrick Rose finally showed up. He had a breakaway layup with 2:38 left in the third after racing out in front of a crowd. Then with 45 seconds left in the quarter, Rose snuck behind a ballhandler, ripped the ball from his hands,...

Team USA hammers D.R. 106-71; Derrick Rose adds 6 points

There was a pulse on Wednesday. Faint early on, but in the third-quarter eventual blowout win for Team USA over the Dominican Republic, pumping with excitement. Finally. It took four games in the pool play round of the FIBA World Cup, but Derrick Rose showed up. There was a breakaway layup with 2:38 left in that third, as Rose raced out in front of a crowd and finger-rolled it in. Then with 45 seconds left in that quarter, Rose snuck behind a ball-handler, ripped...

Derrick Rose struggles again as USA defeats New Zealand

Derrick Rose will have a breakout game. It wasn’t against New Zealand on Tuesday, however, and now three games into FIBA World Cup pool play, it still hasn’t shown itself.

Derrick Rose has no pain in Spain

Derrick Rose is healthy. Two games into FIBA World Cup pool play, and the face of the Bulls franchise is without a noticeable limp. That’s the good news. Great news, actually. Is he the player that had spectators oohing and aahing at the start of the USA Basketball trials in Las Vegas in late July? No, but that doesn’t diminish his last five weeks. This always has been about building a mindset for Rose, letting him know he still can dominate. He did that in Las...

Team USA vs. New Zealand: Derrick Rose quiet again in easy victory

Rose went just 1-of-6 from the field and finished with three points. Team USA was back in action after a day off, and they easily handled New Zealand, 98-71, to move to 3-0 in the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup. The stars were once again Anthony Davis and Kenneth Faried, who combined for 36 points and 20 rebounds. Six players scored in double figures for Team USA, but Derrick Rose wasn't one of them. After a complete dud of a performance against Turkey, Rose again struggled to find his rhythm offensively, finishing with three points on 1-of-6 shooting. He added two assists, one rebound,...

Rose 'feeling good' after FIBA back-to-back

BILBAO, Spain -- Derrick Rose quietly reached a milestone here Sunday night when he came off the bench in an otherwise forgettable first half for Team USA against Turkey. Rose's entrance into the game marked the first time the Chicago Bulls star played in the second half of a back-to-back set since Nov. 22, when his ill-fated appearance in Portland that night came to a halt with Rose suffering the second major knee injury of his short NBA career.

Team USA tops Turkey in World Cup; Derrick Rose held to 2 points

It has been awhile since Derrick Rose was a mop-up player. Then again, Team USA trailing Turkey by five points at the half isn’t exactly the norm, either. In the second game of pool play at the FIBA World Cup, the United States was getting embarrassed by a Turkey team with only one NBA player, and Rose was one of many culprits. So it was no coincidence that U.S. coach Mike Krzyzewski stayed with his starting five for most of the third quarter, which meant Kyrie...

Derrick Rose comes off bench, scores 12 in rout of Finland

Derrick Rose doesn’t need to be the best player on Team USA. As the 114-55 victory Saturday over Finland showed, Rose doesn’t even need to be a starter. He just needs to play with confidence and come out of each FIBA World Cup game without a limp. Check and check. Thanks to a second quarter in which it outscored Finland 29-2, Team USA gave the rest of the world a glimpse of its awesome potential in its opener. More important for the Bulls, there were flashes of...

Team USA vs. Finland: Derrick Rose scores 12 points in blowout victory

Rose bounced back from a subpar performance against Slovenia with an aggressive effort in Team USA's World Cup opener. Derrick Rose had 12 points, three assists and three steals as Team USA destroyed Erik Murphy and his hapless Finns on the first day of the FIBA Basketball World Cup. Team USA won 114-55, and they outscored Finland 29-2 in the second quarter. Rose came off the bench once again, and I thought he looked pretty darn good. He was aggressive, made some excellent passes and did this: This is mesmerizing and awesome and oh my God please let us see this all the time next season...
